What is the average Ross GPA?

I’m not even sure this is true. The top people in CS get 70k+, but I don’t think that’s an average figure. I’ll try to look up the stats on this,

CS median is 77k

When I got hired out of UW to Chicago many years back at a good but not top BB investment firm we were told to expect a first year bonus of at least 25% of base so when I reported the job I said XXXX base plus relocation/signing plus 25% of XXXX bonus. I ended up getting 50% of XXXX as we had a good year. I think that’s pretty standard for any decent finance job.

The thing with that is though that the CS people are all working in very expensive areas. I’d rather make 63K in Michigan than 77K in Silicon Valley.

I agree! And there’s a ton of financial coding positions out in NYC or Chicago, which are just as bad. Yay for Seattle.

Eh? Seattle actually has a higher cost of living than Chicago.
Meh. Most of the software jobs there aren’t in Seattle, they’re in suburbs which are cheap. Plus commuting to Seattle from elsewhere is an option, as opposed to NYC or other big cities.

Having actually lived in both Chicago and Seattle, Seattle is cheaper. No INCOME tax. Easy to avoid sales tax on many large items by shopping in nearby Portland with 0 sales tax. Much lower property taxes and lower home prices in good areas outside the city. Not much cost for heat or AC as it does not get that hot or cold most of the time. Even dressing is cheaper because everyone is casual here–no suits. In Chicago I wore a suit every day. I no longer own one.

I thought those in the Silicon Valley would be making ~100k.

If I were negotiating my pay package with my would be employer, I would demand my salary paid in a traded physical commodity, preferably either frozen orange juice or feeder cattle. That way I know I wont starve for the rest of my life.
