So I want to be a programmer and a CEO, and Im in 11th grade right now. I came from another country this year and am taking Algebra 2 trig. I didnt ask fornit, they placed me themselves.
So i just wanted to know whether Algerbra 2 trig is superior to Algebra 2. Or are they both bad for a junior and I should be in Pre calculus?
Also If I want to be a programmer do I need some top notch Math? Like pre calculus honors or Calculus Bc or something?
Well, I’ve never heard of Algebra 2 trig, but given from its name, you’ll obviously be going into some trig concepts that won’t be covered in Algebra 2. If you have NO other choice (as in, the school will absolutely not put you into Pre-calc), then I would take Algebra 2 trig. I’m not sure how your school sees Algebra 2 trig, but I feel like Pre Calc is definitely superior in terms of going into more concepts that are needed for Calc AB. If you take this class, will you be allowed to move up to Calc AB next year?
If you want to be a programmer, I would suggest trying to take at least Calc AB. Talk with your counselor and see your options, considering you transferred. They will be able to list out possible math pathways for you.
What’s the class after Algebra2 or Algebra2Trig?
I’m guessing the former segues into Precalculus while the latter segues into Precalculus Honors.
Check with your math teacher.
Do you find the class very easy? Does it match something you’ve studied before?
If you want to go into programming, you should definitely take Precalculus Honors senior year.
Taking Calculus senior year would be better (Honors, AB, or BC), but it’s not mandatory; in addition, unless your school offers precalculus over summer school, or you can take precalculus via a community college summer course, you don’t really have a choice.
IT depends on what material you school includes under each title.
On the face of it, it sounds as though Algebra II & Trig should be the more rigorous of the two courses.
But you’ll want to look at the course descriptions.
Or, far better, ask your guidance counselor. Tell her what path you hope to follow, and ask which course makes more sense.
Should you be in Precalc? Probably not without Algebra II.
But speak to your guidance counselor. She knows the sequence your school offers, and which path is the best for someone with your grades, your background, and your aspirations.
