I saw a video on YouTube where tons of students were packed together somewhere at the school smoking. Does CU just allow all of those kids to smoke on school property at once?
Used to be a big deal for about an hour on 4/20. Now it is not such a big deal. It’s not Woodstock.
But yes, CU kind of ignores it for a short part of one day. The rest of the year there is no smoking (of anything) on campus or in public buildings in Colorado, including dorms. I’m actually surprised when I see anyone in Boulder smoking, vaping, or toking in public.
It’s no longer an “event” on campus as the 4/20 has been hosted in Denver for the last few years. Although they may have to find a new venue since the event organizers were banned for leaving the Denver park where it was hosted trashed.
Former President Benson ended the 4/20 event on campus, by spreading fish fertilizer on the quad that day and CLOSING campus, so no Denver beatniks could show up to smoke together . The vast majority of the CU Boulder 4/20 event was outsiders, some alums, and not current students. Also, weed is legal here, so no real need for this event anymore.
