Are there any departments or studies at Duke that are ranked among the top 5 in the nation?

I think BME is one such department, but are there any others?

So, a President of the United States, a Duke Law graduate who has a book in the Amazon Top 500, and a case about three men being railroaded by a Carolina Law grad. Indeed.

^Lol touche.

He's forgetting Drew Rosenhaus. :p

And in fairness, unless the student is thinking of coming here for law school, perhaps we should talk about undergrad alums. Paul Farmer and Libby Dole come to mind. :D

And me. :)

ah, how could I forget Rosenahaus? Wow, with him, Tucker Max, and Nixon, the ethics curriculum at Duke must be top notch. ;) Oh, and let's provide some context to your "top 500 on amazon!" claim--the title of Mr. Max's book is I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. Talk about the fruits of a Duke education...

What would you know about it over there in Chapel Hill?

Environmental science (offered by the Nicholas School) is pretty strong at Duke.

Well, I, for one, certainly do hope they serve beer in hell, so it is an apt title. Though I am more of a wine person and hoping in the end to go the other direction. I suppose it will be something like warmed-over Oly if the were to have it...

duke's top of the line in terms of bio/medical

And, of course, we have the best (only?) glowing statue with words on it in the country. Oh, I kid thee not.

According to a previous thread, the Spanish department of Duke receives terrible comments and My Fiske Guide to Colleges even said to avoid languages at Duke. How can it rank 5th? Can somebody clarify it for me?

I think Duke is generally solid in everything but not a master at anything. Of course, don't take my word.

^Do you have a reason for thinking that? Duke is known to be especially strong for BME and Public Policy.

The Focus Program at Duke is one of its most unique curricular features.

For CLASS of 2011 DUKIES who are applying to Focus, please check out one of the newest clusters debuting this Fall, which is based on an evolving approach to health care that is personalized, predictive, preventative & participatory. It's known as "Prospective Health Care" or "PHC" for short.

The Center for Research on Prospective Health Care at Duke spearheaded developing this cluster & we are 100% dedicated to Duke undergrads, which is why we founded the Duke undergrad PHC Club in 2005. So when you join this cluster, you have an immediate link to the Center & the Club.

Students with diverse interests are encouraged to apply. Our core courses are policy, history, psychology & immunology based.
