What is Evanston like? How are the relations with Northwestern?

Google Earth is your friend: <a href="Google Maps;

I put you starting out at Edzo’s Burger shop. NU is @ 1 mile away - head west. If you are smart enough to get into NU - you can figure the rest out.

There are some political differences between the town of Evanston and NU (mostly relating to what NU should pay for what) but they are completely irrelevant to everyday student life.

Read the online Evanston newspapers. The hyperlinks ones.

Evanston is a fantastic town. I like to think of it as Chicago Jr. but apart from the long stretch of beach and bike path, it’s is a lot more similar to Arlington Heights. Assuming you’re not from the area, it has tons of restaurants and stores downtown, a good number of high rises, but none of ridiculous height, and it’s near a pretty affluent area of Chicago’s suburbs. The North Shore is know for this - Home Alone’s mansion is located nearby in Winnetka.

Evanston = all the connection to Chicago you need, without the suffocation of the city.

Make that “hyperlocal” not hyperlinks. Dang autocorrect.

The parts of Evanston where NU is located at are safe, upscale and comfortable. Not so much for those bits further away (Dempster etc)

Evanston is amazing! its a small town with pretty much everything you could need

Evanston is an awesome college town. Townspeople can be annoying and act entitled with regards to the school. Ex) Dillo Day is our big concert of the year in June right before reading week. Because of the flatness of the area, you can hear the music from all around Evanston. They require that the music be off abruptly at 11, which can be annoying given that that there was a rain delay two years ago that caused acts to have to be canceled and shortened. Not only that, but Evanston residents are all allowed to get a bunch of houses per household, that a lot of people sell to random people and make money.
TL;DR Evanston is cool but sometimes the people are not.
