I would love to rush at CWRU, but am unsure of how the greek life is like. I’m in between deciding with CWRU and OSU (Ohio State) and have realized the social scene is pretty important in my decision.
The social “scene” could not be more different than at those two colleges. Greek life at OSU is going to be like you have seen in the movies, whereas at Case it will be much, much more sedated. Go to visit the campuses and you will see what I’m talking about.
@heemang24 CWRU has some very social frats like FIJI, and some service oriented frats. Some frats like Delta Sig
do not yet own homes in Cleveland, so you will be paying money to live and money to be part of Delta Sig. Sorority parties are open to those dating sorority girls, so you don’t have to join a fraternity to go to sorority events with a girl at Case. Case has nursing students, and many other majors with lots of girls. I am assuming you are boy, but just reverse my answer if you are a girl. Plenty of social life for either. Case is not so male dominated as OSU will be in Engineering, but Ohio State has legendary social life if thats what you want, and its really good for academics.
Cleveland is a more “hip” city with lots of RAVE parties, actually. I only know that because I talk to CWRU nursing
students, who do that sort of thing. I am a parent of a CWRU graduate. Columbus is a more boring city, than Cleveland, so if you use Cleveland as your playground, may be pretty amazing social life. Cleveland State and John Carroll and CIM are all close by too.
I am also a parent of a Case graduate. My son was active in a fraternity during his time there. He still lives in Cleveland. If you want Animal House style Greek Life you won’t find it at Case. If you want Greek Life at Case it is there and it is active but Greeks at Case are typically good students who are a bit more social than the average Case student. There are parties with plenty of alcohol but it isn’t like OSU.
Remember that there are other things to do in Cleveland besides party while the same cannot be said of Columbus. Cleveland has every opportunity that other cities have for a social life without the high price you find in some other places. If you want large school Greek Life you will not find it at Case. If you want a small university with nice Greek Life and other things to do besides party Case may be for you.
To be fair to Columbus, they have clubs, art, music and stuff to do too! Its a bigger
city than Cleveland. But Ohio State students by and large
will stick with the routine stuff on campus. Not so at Case, Cleveland is utilized more by students,
both as a place to work, a place to play, a place to explore. Cleveland is more hip and trendy
and offers the Cavs. Even I became a Cavs fan, after exposure to Cleveland. Also things are easily
walkable from CWRU, which is very nice, so walk to a bar, walk to a good Italian pizza place, walk
to a concert. I bet Columbus more spread out and more difficult to get around.
