What is it like being a Ross student?

Hi!
This is my first post on CC and I'm excited to see how it goes. I am a senior from Florida that will be applying early action this fall.
What it is like being a Ross student at UMich? How is it academically and socially wise? What kind of opportunities are there and do a lot of students participate in them? Any other insight is helpful!
Thanks for the help!

Academically:

Ross Core dominates most of your business classes. Google “Ross BBA Core” and it will come up right away. Every student takes a standardized schedule until Junior year where you can begin taking electives. Some courses are tough, some are easy, but each class is graded on the Ross curve (40% A(+/-), 40% B(+), 10% B-, 10% other, so no matter what, you have to beat out your peers if you want good grades. Team projects are really important and you will see one (if not several) in each class. These can be a lot of fun if you have a great group, or awful if you have a bad one, but everyone there is there to succeed, so generally there won’t as many slackers as in other majors. The business school is the prettiest academic building on campus IMO and has a lot of great places to study and resources to utilize.

Socially:

Around 35% (maybe more) are in business fraternities. Another 35% are in social fraternities/sororities (and possibly business fraternities as well). Everyone is very friendly and is looking to make friends, plus you’ll meet people through your team projects. Business school kids work hard and play hard. There are no classes on Fridays so Thursday nights are generally fair game as well, and b-school is not nearly as much work as engineering, architecture, etc. It’s very possible to achieve a balance of study/social.

Opportunities:

Lots of Ross clubs (again, google should find you a list). Recruiting at Ross is excellent and the best companies in the world recruit here for every discipline. There are case competitions offered by companies frequently and they generally have very active participation. Ross students are active all over campus and many are doing 2 majors.

Any other specific questions?

To add onto what Kyle said, the BBA core has changed for the class of 2017 (and later years obviously). It has become a bit more extensive than it already was in the past. I think our core is somewhere around 43 credits now. I’m pretty sure if you look at the Ross BBA core online it will have the old BBA requirements. You can also study abroad during the winter semester of your junior year.

Thank you guys!! That pretty much covered it all, they were really great answers. But if I have anymore questions, I’ll be sure to ask.
