I’m currently in my first semester at college at the local community college and know I want to transfer to UC Davis. I definitely plan to join a sorority, take a class at the craft center and join clubs.
I’m also planing to do summer session and am wondering if it is at all similar to the regular semester? And are students friendly and willing to make friends with a junior transfer?
My dd had a CC transfer as a roommate last year. Because this was a townhouse with 7 girls, the new roommate had 6 new friends to know and develop friendships.
Since she wanted to do sports, this roommate found friends in her sport and roomed with them this year. Their schedules and early practices all gelled such that this year, she is living with most of her teammates.
If you plan to transfer in your junior year, I don’t think you will have time to do the sorority rush simply because your class load will be a bit of an adjustment. Summer session does not have the numbers of students you see during the quarters, so it will not be the same. It will however, be really HOT!
Yup ^^^^ it will be really really really realllllllllllly hot. I went on a tour in June or July and it was over 100 degrees.
From the transfer students I know that moved on to UC schools, the workload is going to be heavier. UCD is on a quarter system, too so it will move fast. If you’ve ever taken an accelerated summer session, it’ll be kind of like that.
I’m afraid of not making friends as an older transfer student, but i’m choosing to live in the student housing apartments with other transfer students so I can be around other students and try to make friends. I don’t think other students will care if you’re a transfer student because they won’t really look at you and say, "Oh a Junior transfer student, let’s not talk to him/her…"But also, it is what you make it. Try to find some activities or clubs so you can get the opportunity to try to make some friends, attend some events. It might be intimidating at first but I think because UCD is such a naturally friendly and inviting school, it won’t be incredibly difficult to have a social life!
