I hear a whole bunch of bad things about UCI....that it is really boring, a commuter school, no one has school spirit, and that it is a whole bunch of nerds who study nonstop....I don't see how all these claims can be true, so can anyone tell me what it is truly like on campus....and no more of that "it is what you make of it" crap!

Also, where do students hang out on weekdays; do they just stay on campus? Or are there coffeehouses, cafes, stores, etc. anywhere near campus? I asked once before but no one replied.

When we visited UCI we didn't have much time to check out the surroundings, all we saw in the immediate vicinity was fast food chains like KFC. Nothing local, but maybe we just didn't know where to look ?? Like, where would you go out for breakfast?

I'm trying to picture living there....

ANTEATERFORUM.com great website, its a forum for students who acutally goto UCI!!

I have some friends who go there, and I'm in the area from time to time...

There's stuff to do. Many fine eateries and caf

it's what you make of it ;)

For me, I already know whats the area is like around irvine and the surrounding cities. I have friends and family in Garden Grove, huntington beach and LA. I know that there is an awesome beach nearby to surf (isn't a walk a way but close enough). I can go shopping at Fashion Island or splurge at Southcoast Mall. Or chill at the Irvine Spectrum Center. My family owns a Boba/Pho resturant in "Little Saigon City"( aka Garden Grove) so i'll never go hungry. And I when I was at the campus, it seemed really relax and there was a lot of open spaces like the central park where I can see myself sitting in the sun reading or doing my hw on the grass. If you can drive, there are so many places outside the city to explore too. *Nice weather, clean campus and a solid education :] *

BTW, The fact that Irvine has an 50%+ asian population was discouraging at first, because I wanted a diverse campus where I would not blend in so much (because I am Vietnamese-which I guess is what most of the Asian students there are). But when I visited the campus, I saw students of all colors, and it wasn't like a chinese new years parade in China or anything. The students racial proportion was like what I saw at CAL,UCSC and UCLA.

Stores nearby: In&out, tapioca express and I'M REALLY REALLY EXCITED THAT THERE IS A CHIPOTLE within 10 minutes of the campus <3 and every surrounding city. there is only like one within 30 miles of my house.
