What is L&S? Is it hard to change the major?

I got in Berkeley for Letters and Science and I have no idea why I picked that field.
I think I picked that because that one had the undeclared major?

I heard that L&S major is like the easiest field to get in Berkeley.
If I remain in this field, what career can I persue?
Am I to become a pure mathematician or historian?

What I intended was business. but I didn't want to start that major in undergrad.
I was thinking of majoring math analysis or something firt at undergrade that could help my business major in my grad school.

What exactly is L&S? and is it hard to change L&S to some other field like engineering or business?

There’s a letters and science major? I’ve heard of the college of L&S… but never it being a major. If you mean you’re IN the college of L&S, its easy to switch between majors inside the college since you don’t declare til sophomore year.

You were admitted to the College of Letters and Sciences. By policy, nobody in L&S is admitted into a major, no matter what you put in your application. You take classes, including pre-requisites for your major, and usually by the end of sophmore or beginning of junior year, you ‘declare’ yourself with a department for a major. Lots of time to change directions if the major you thought you liked when you wrote the application is not so appealing, but you fell in love with some other field based on great experiences in classes.

Thanks :]] yeah, i was talking about college of L&S… lolll is there any way i cud switch into different college like engineering, or is college of L&S worth staying at? Cuz it seems to me that the college of L&S just studies pure majors like pure science and history.

Most of the pre-Haas people i know are in l&s. Haas being our undergrad business school.

helpful site to inform you: [College of Letters & Science](http://ls.berkeley.edu/)

list of l&s majors: [L&S Majors - List of Majors](http://ls-major.berkeley.edu/majorlist.html)

Thank you so much for the info. so, Haas major is not preselected yet? What i mean is, I saw people who said that they got into Haas program. So does that mean, that they just chose that program when they applyed to Berkeley?

And i coudn’t fine any major of business or Haas on the Major list, so does that mean that i can choose any major and go to Haas program?

Is Haas program a part of L&S? or is it a totally different department?

Haas is our undergrad business program.

You have to apply for it, you’re not guaranteed entry just because you got into the school. I think you apply before the end of your sophomore year?

So pretty much, if you apply and get in, you’re in doing Haas related stuff. If you apply and don’t get in, you’re still in cal, just not their program, meaning you’ll have to make sure you prepare to have a backup l&s major to declare.

Which is why a lot of haas students fulfill economics requirements, so they can declare that if they get rejected from haas. i’m sure they have a website somewhere…

i’m not familiar with it though, so hopefully someone else can fill you in with more details.

Thank you soo much! your info was really helpful!
