What is national student leadership conference?

I just a mail from NSLC saying that based on my academic achievements and demonstrated leadership potential I am invited to represent my school at 2009 NSL Conference... I am really confused why I got it because my psat was only 194 and I don't have any leadership positions...

NSLC is a complete waste of time and money.
Never go do it.

One of your teachers probably recommended you. It's a waste of money.

is it really as bad as you guys say? i got the letter today as well and i thought it sounded pretty cool. not only that, but wouldn't it help with your college application?

What really helps is the stuff that's competitive and free. Normally if you have to pay for that boost, it wasn't worth it.

for those of you who didnt like the program, what were you studying in it? was it the medical stuff? or something else?

you can do it if it looks interesting, but it's not something that will affect your application

I went to the JNSLC, it is the 'junior' version for 7th-9th graders. I liked it, it was pretty cool, but there are much better programs that cost the exact same that would look MUCH better on your applications and what not.

I got nominated for the junior program. I didn't have the money.

hmm, so if i didn't go to this, could i still put it on my app that i got selected to go to it? or should i not do that?

it's a money-making scheme.

only do it if you actually want to. don't do it to put on your app... it doesn't help at all. they are basically just asking for your money.

My child got the lit too, probably based on his PSAT (223 in 10th grade). I'm sure it's a fun program, and you might even learn something, but nobody is going to be in the least impressed.
I would disagree with musicallylatin - many very good programs are not free.
