I just started looking into Mt Holyoke, and I see the program called Nexus on their website beside the link for engineering - what is it?
off the website
Create an individual program of study combined with an internship experience. In the junior or senior year, students engage in reflective practice and present at the Learning from Application (LEAP) Symposium.
It appears to be similar to a minor. Keep in mind for engineering the classes are usually at Smith or UMass. It is a good thing to utilize the 5 college consortium and take classes at the other schools.
Much of this is reiterating what SFLmom said, but a Nexus is essentially a minor with an internship component. After completing your chosen internship, you take a mandatory half-semester class in the fall semester to prepare you for LEAP. Where all the students participating in Nexus programs, or those who have received internship/research funding through the Lynk, hold short presentations about their opportunity and how it has connected their education and future career. The aim of Nexus certificates is to allow students to concentrate on a field of study more connected to the jobs they will use their majors to obtain. Some include Nonprofit Organizations or Law, Public Policy, and Human Rights. I am biased, but I think it’s a really cool program!
The other option for Engineering at MHC is a dual-degree program with either UMass, CalTech or Dartmouth. I don’t know much about it, but it’s a five year situation. https://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/engineering/dual_degree
