I haven’t visited yet but heading down at the end of the month. I have a question about rushing a fraternity and being from NJ. I keep seeing different replies on it being noniclusive. I’ve travelled quite a bit and have no problems meeting new people.
Also when do students normally schedule classes. A friend at South Carolina said everyone takes early classes so they can go golf and play tennis all afternoon.

I think what you meant to say was “…so they can READ and STUDY all afternoon”?

My S was invited to visit Ole Miss last Fall. I have to admit Ole Miss wasn’t on his / our radar until that time. Given the rumors and reputation of being a party school, I thought my son was far too smart for them. Boy was I wrong, and boy did he LOVE it. He couldn’t get home soon enough to put the Ole Miss sticker on the back of his car. We live in a major college town and have visited numerous schools in our quest for the perfect school. Suffice it to say, rumors are just like first impressions - inaccurate. As for the party school reputation…I’m sorry to share with other naive forum parents (yes I was one of those), most of the colleges and universities we’ve visited (where smart children choose to go) have their fair share of partying. It just doesn’t get as much publicity.

how good r their game design and graphic design areas/

Here are links to the Art and Computer Science departments which would be the closest areas offered by Ole Miss to what you are looking for.

You will find a high proportion of Ole Miss students are social conservatives.

My son will be applying this fall after a great interview and visit last spring. Out of the other schools he toured Ole Miss was the most welcoming and just seemed to get it. I think the visit at my fraternity’s house also helped seal the deal.

Happy to hear you DS had a great visit upperarlington!

Great to read that you enjoyed your visit to Ole Miss! Hotty Toddy!

Just a quick question that I didn’t want to start a new thread for:

Can a freshman get a single dorm room? I ask because some colleges don’t let freshmen choose a particular type of room. Thanks!

Due to high volumes of incoming freshmen, single rooms are quite rare on campus. Contact housing@olemiss.edu for details on that possibility.

If you need conservative, you’ll love it here.

I am a Junior at Ole Miss currently. My major is Psychology. My first semester of freshman year I went to Mississippi State and I absolutely hated it. It truly was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. My brother attended there and loved it so I figured I would too. I then transferred to Ole Miss second semester of my freshman year. I fell in love with Ole Miss. The stereotype of the school being filled stuck up, racist, white kids is false. Yes, there is a small amount of that here, but the majority of the people are incredibly nice and inviting. I have friends in the Theater program and love it, but they said that it could be improved. I think the english department is fairly good. I am not sure about the Political Science classes. I think if you are truly interested in Ole Miss you should visit. In my opinion there is no place like it. It is defiantly conservative so I think you would be just fine here. Ole Miss is about 81% greek the last time I checked, so many functions around campus are centered around greek life. I am partial to greek life because I am apart of it. Ole Miss has so much to offer and I would absolutely recommend the University to anyone and everyone!

Just as a point of clarification, only about 35% of our undergraduate students are participants in Greek organizations. The vast majority of Ole Miss undergraduates are not affiliated with a Greek organization. They are wonderful opportunities for campus involvement!

Hey. That is so typical for you to think that the south isn’t metropolitan as well. I live in houston Texas. That is the 4th largest city in the country. Don’t ever say that the south is all rural again you peasant. Houston is also very affluent and wealthy

Right of center but more moderate than years ago. Beautiful campus. Depends on what you want. Social activities? Academic challenges (depends on area of study)? Town functions? Probably some of the things you are considering for other schools.
