I'm Canadian, and we do not have any programs like this in Canada. We just have biology and general health science programs. What is 'pre-med'? Is it an actual program? Like, do you apply to pre-med? Or do you apply to a regular program and join pre-med?

I'm really confused about this. Could someone explain to me what it is? For example, at Baylor University...they have a premed program that I am interested in, but I don't understand the entire concept. Thanks a lot!

There’s no such thing as a “pre-med program” (I’m not sure what Baylor has… perhaps they’re just calling it that as a marketing strategy?). Pre-med simply means you plan to apply to med school and are planning to take or have taken the required courses to apply for med school (intro bio, gen chem, organic chem, physics, english). You don’t “apply” for pre-med. Some schools do have an actual pre-med major, but that is pretty pointless and should be avoided in favor of an academic major (eg, bio, english, etc).

There are plenty of Pre-med programs, just very few pre-med degrees/majors.

ok, could you check this out:
[Baylor University || Baylor Prehealth Professions || Premedicine](http://www.baylor.edu/prehealth/index.php?id=36406) This is the description of the Pre-Medicine thing offered at Baylor.

But then it says this:
If you are admitted to Baylor University you are also admitted to your respective prehealthcare program of choice. There is not an additional application process to these programs.

So, does this mean I apply for Biology or something, then if I get accepted, I can also get accepted to this Pre-Med module or w/e you wanna call it? What does this course even do? Just help you take courses that are required for med school? It’s pretty confusing/
