What is really special about Vassar?

I'm going to apply ED1 to Vassar this year and have everything in my profile done.
However, I really want to have some insider's view and get to know more and more about Vassar.
I want to know what is really special about Vassar according to your experience in this college ?
I really appreciate your response
Thank you very much

Btw is it true that Vassar allows students to have pets in their dorm? Because I'm a dog-lover :D

I’m sure that the dogs all belong to the faculty fellows but I did see a guinea pig in one of the Vassar dorm tour videos. I’m sure that particular bit of information is more easily available on the Vassar website than here!

Regardless of the pets, I hope you don’t plan to have a dog stay in your dorm room (pretty sure that’s not allowed – only small pets like hamsters, etc.), because that is potentially a pretty boring existence for a dog.

Hey can someone answer the actual question (I’m curious too)

As a male alum I would say that what’s special about the school includes: an atmosphere of engagement, an outstanding faculty, a fun collegial spirit, a diverse student body and faculty, a breathtaking campus, great resources, an excellent student-faculty ratio, an environment of people who have self-selected to avoid frat culture, guys who are secure enough to be happy at a school that less than fifty years ago was all women, proximity to New York City, a history of progressivism, an open curriculum that allows students maximum choice regarding their courses, a storied history, and a name that is synonymous with education excellence. How’s that for starters?

Out of the top 20 schools in the nation, Vassar is probably one of the most progressive. Economic diversity is also prominent. There’s also a system called a “fellow group,” with a “fellowee” assigned to each group. Basically the fellowee (a sophomore) is like an RA but less punitive power and more love. LOL. In my fellow group, there’s a Vietnamese international student who came here on an almost-full scholarship, a Socal latino who also came on an almost-full scholarship, a Chinese international student, a black girl from Missouri, a son of a prominent film producer, and a first generation college student. So quite the diversity. LOL. The campus is absolutely gorgeous (and huge! 1000 acres, man), especially in the fall.
