I've been curious to hear that some people got into Stern as a Stern Scholar...what exactly is that? And what advantages do you get? Any distinction or scholarship?

search for posts about 'stern scholar'. you'll find PLENTY

its really good

why are all the scholars in that picture asian? lol i cant be the only person seeing this

haha. iunno. when I visited many of them WERE asian. Most, I'd say.

umm...almost all of stern is asian lol. When I walk in Tisch hall it is like 70%

^^^ This is true, probably more than half of the general Stern body is Asian (both Far East & South).

wats so good bout it? do you only get free trips and thats it? or are there other advantages?

Well, it's good for resume and stuff. Basically, it says that NYU thinks you are one of the top students in the class. It means you've maintained a 3.5 average throughout college, participated in other activities, etc.

it really means nothing. My friend is a stern freshman this year, and he has a 3.9 without being a scholar, and he know scholars with 3.4's.

Well, they won't be scholars next year... :D

yea, haha, youkosiren's right

ivypoison, could that be because the scholars took harder/different classes maybe?

Well, I think that ivypoison's trying to say that you can totally show that you're a good student by just keeping your GPA up and stuff, which is certainly true. I mean, being in Scholars doesn't MAKE you a better student - you get into Scholars because you ARE a good student.

Can you apply to become a Stern scholar as a sophomore??? Or is it only by invitation?

Yes, you can apply to Scholars as a sophomore.

Is there a GPA cutoff for applying to scholars as a sophomore? Like a 3.5? Are there other requirements?

I don't really know all of the requirements, but I'm pretty sure a GPA of 3.5+ and maybe recommendations or something.

Some pointers
1) Stern Scholars do not take harder classes, they just have to take this seminar thing once a week
2) Stern Scholar is easiest to get into freshmen year, you can apply later on but u need like a 3.8 to get accepted
3) If the first semester u get lower than a 3.5, u get put on probationary, another semseter lower than 3.5 u get kicked out.
4) Not all Stern scholars are qualified, I know some who cheat, buy essay off the net, do weed, think they are still the big men they were in high school and just slack off and get a 2.7. Of course there are your typical sternies that pulls an all nighter just to edit their essays.

if they get a 2.7 they are kicked out, right? So they are no longer scholars

haha, they should be?
