Besides its athletics, what is it known for?

i think it is also famous for its business school. At least in NY area.

Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications is among the very best schools for journalism (print and broadcast) in the country.

On a sports note, they're known for wearing hideous orange football uniforms.

Newhouse school, Maxwell School and School of Visual and Performing arts. These are by far their more famous and better ranked schools.

I'd throw in SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry too - even though it is a different college, it is housed on the Syracuse campus and is one of the foremost schools of its kind.

Journalism.

snow, lots of snow

It has a great music program, I think.

although many kids go there for Newhouseand its reputation, after getting there, many end up double-majoring with a degree in public policy to go along with their journalism degree.

Syracuse has produced more famous sports announcers than the next five schools combined

I would say that it is best known for its Communications school.

On a graduate level, Syracuse's Maxwell school has been ranked #1 in the nation for quite some time in public policy (yes, even above the Ivy League schools).

Syracuse University is also famous for its architecture program. If you guys havent noticed, It is ranked 2nd in the United States of America for its professional B.Arch course. THAT, is impressive.

Old thread, but Newhouse, Visual & Performing Arts, Maxwell School, College of Arts & Sciences, and I did not know that about the Architecture, snaray03!

And of course, Coach Jim Boeheim! (who was there when I was an undergrad) :)

The first thing that I associate SU with is journalism and communications.

Snow, and journalism.
