What is the accelerated Math course sequence in your high school?

Speaking of which, there are a handful of people who are 2 years accelerated, so they take Algebra 2 (usually honors) in 9th grade, Trig/Analytical Geometry in 10th, and take AP Calc BC in 11th. They either take AP Stat or some other college course in 12th.

9th: Algebra 2
10th: Functions, Stats, Trig
11th: Precalc and Descrete Math
12th: Ap calc AB

This thread is from 2009. I am interested in the same question in 2015, and would love to see updated responses. What is the accelerated HS Math curriculum for your school? What’s required for admission to the Ivys?

Ours is:

7th Grade - Pre Algebra/Geometry
8th Grade - Algebra I

High School:
9th Grade - Honors Geometry
10th Grade - Honors Algebra II
11th Grade - Honors Precalculus
12th Grade - AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC and/or* AP Statistics

I am wondering if we should consider Geometry over the summer for a rising 9th grader

I was pretty much one of the guinea pig for the new math program
before my 8th grade year it was much different

7th grade: ??? I would assume IMP 1 but everyone took either or algebra or algebra 1 because the news program wouldnt come til the next year
8th:IMP (integrated mathematics program)2
9th: IMP 3
10TH: IMP 4
11th/12th: APstats, or calc ab or bc

Though there are some who took IMP 2 as a 7th grader

My school’s math is kinda weird

The is no math sequence that is required for Ivy League schools.

There are several people in our school with the following accelerated track:
6th grade- Algebra 1
7th grade- Algebra 2 + Geometry
8th grade- Pre-Calculus
9th grade - AP Calculus AB
10th grade - AP Calculus BC
11th grade- Multivariable Calculus
12th grade- ???(i don’t know what they do after 11th grade)

The normal track is the above schedule shifted by 1 year.

8th grade: Algebra I honors
9th grade: Geometry Honors
10th grade: Algebra II Honors
11th grade: PreCalculus Honors
12th grade: (Math not required) But choice of AP Statistics and/or AP Calculus AB or Dual Enrollment Math 120 (covers same material as AP Statistics)

7th:Algebra 1
8th:Algebra 1 or Geometry
9th:Algebra 2
10th:AP Stats and Geometry if not taken during middle school or PreCalculus if you don’t want to take Stats
11th:IB Math SL/HL, PreCalculus, or AP Calculus
12th:AP Calculus, IB Math SL/HL, or Dual-Enrollment

In my school, these are the MOST ADVANCED classes available (but most people don’t take this):

6th: Math 6
7th: Pre-Algebra 7
8th: Algebra I
9th: Geometry Honors
10th: Algebra 2/Trigonometry Honors
11th: AP Calculus AB
12th: AP Calculus BC

7th: Math 1
(Proficiency test at the end of the year. Results determine 8th grade placement)
8th: Regular Ed takes Pre-Algebra. Accelerated students take Algebra I
(Following Accelerated students’ track)
9th: Geometry
10th: Alg II
11th: Pre-Calc (Alg III and Trig)
12th: Calculus AB (BC not really offered, but you can take it online if you doubled up at some point)

8th grade: Math I/Algebra I

9th grade: Honors Math II/Geometry and Honors Math III/Algebra II

10th grade: Precalculus (weighted as honors) and honors discrete math (if you’d like another math)

11th grade math: AP Calculus AB Prep and AP Calculus AB (they may add Calculus BC)

12th grade: AP Stats, college math course

In my school
8th Grade-Integrated Algebra/Algebra 1
9th Grade-Geometry Honors
10th Grade-Algebra 2/ Trigonometry
11th Grade- Precalculus or AP Calculus AB if 95+ on Algebra 2/ Trigonometry Regents Exam (NY Exam)
12th Grade- AP Calculus AB or Calc 2 at community college if AP C

In my school
8th Grade-Integrated Algebra/Algebra 1
9th Grade-Geometry Honors
10th Grade-Algebra 2/ Trigonometry
11th Grade- Precalculus or AP Calculus AB if 95+ on Algebra 2/ Trigonometry Regents Exam (NY Exam)
12th Grade- AP Calculus AB or Calc 2 at community college if AP Calculus was taken in 11th grade

Not proud of my school, whatsoever.
8th Grade-Algebra 1
9th Grade-Algebra 2 Honors
10th Grade-Geometry Honors
11th Grade- Precalculus
12th Grade- AP Calculus AB (less than 15 people take this class each year, and there are ~400 people per graduating class)

7th grade: Algebra I
8th grade: Geometry Honors
9th grade: Algebra II Honors
10th grade: Pre-Calc/Trig Honors (can also take AP Stats)
11th grade: AB/BC AP Calc (can also take AP Stats)
12th grade: AP Stats or BC Calc if you took AB in 11th grade

^This was just recently implemented within the last year or two.
Originally it was:
8th: Algebra I
9th: Geometry Honors
10th: Algebra II Honors
11th: Pre-Calc/Trig Honors (can also take AP Stats)
12th: AP AB/BC Calc (with AP Stats if you want)
You could also double up on Geometry/Algebra II.

9th Grade students can place into any math class from Algebra I to AP Calculus AB. The most talented math students would do this:
9: Algebra II H
10: PreCalculus H
11: AP Calc AB
12: AP Calc BC / AP Stats
*a few juniors are allowed to take AP Stats while they take AP Calc AB

A handful (maybe 6 per year) can be chosen to take Multivariable calculus during 12th grade, either after a year of AP Calc BC (if they started 9th grade in PreCalculus) or while they take BC.

Some students also do this:
9: PreCalculus H
10: Calculus H
11: AP Calc AB
12: AP Calc BC / AP Stats

There are really many variations.

“Regular” advanced:
7th grade: Algebra 1
8th grade: Geometry
9th grade: Algebra 2
10th grade: Pre-Calculus and/or AP statistics
11th grade: AP Calculus BC and/or AP statistics.
12th grade: Multi-variable calculus/Linear algebra and/or AP Statistics.

“Super” advanced (Only 3-4 students):
Same as above, except one year ahead.
As seniors, these guys take Differential equations at a nearby college.

9th: Geometry
10th: Algebra II/Trigonometry
11th: AP Calculus AB
12th: You have nothing else.

It sucks so much for our advanced guys.

Sequence 1:
9th: Honors Geometry
10th: Honors Algebra II
11th: Honors Pre-Calc/AP Calc AB
12th: AP Calc BC & Multivariable (optional)

Sequence 2:
9th: Honors Algebra II
10th: Honors Pre-Calc/AP Calc AB
11th: AP Calc BC
12th: Multivariable

Sequence 1:
9th: Honors Algebra I
10th: Honors Geometry
11th: Honors Algebra II
12th: Honors Pre-Calc

Sequence 2:
9th: Honors Geometry
10th: Honors Algebra II
11th: Honors Pre-Calc
12th: Honors Calculus or AP Calc AB/BC or AP Stats

Technically we have a Dual Enrollment College Algebra course but no one has taken that course ever.
