Ours is kinda weird, I guess. Basically, you take a test in fifth grade and just jump in wherever you fit. Most kids are in Math 6 for 6th grade, but there are probably 100 or so in 6X, 30 or so in Pre-Algebra, and 2 in Algebra. One kid (who just graduated HS) was in Geometry as a 6th grader. I started in Pre-Algebra but got special permission to double last year, so I’ll be in Pre-Calc as a freshman.
So:
Math 6 (regular 6th grade)
Math 6X or Math 7 (honors 6th or regular 7th)
Pre-Algebra
Algebra
Geometry
Algebra II (can take consecutively with Geo)
Pre-Calculus
Calculus (AB or BC; BC = accelerated)
Advanced Math Topics (basically college Calculus)
Also AP Stats and Comp Sci are randomly in there after Algebra II. We also have a few other elective math classes like Business Math and Finite Mathematics.

Regular Track
7th- Pre-Algebra
8th- Algebra 1
9th- Geometry
10th- Alg 2 OR Alg 2/Trig (2/trig is for advanced geometry students)
11th- Math Analysis/Pre-Calc H (MA is for Alg 2 or low performing A2T kids, Pre-Calc H is mostly for A2T)
12th- AP Stats or AP Calc AB or AP Calc BC (MA kids usually go to stats or AB, PCH goes to usually AB or BC)
“Accelerated” Track
7th- Algebra 1
8th- Geometry
9th- Alg 2 or Alg 2/Trig (usually 2/Trig)
10th- Math Analysis (rarely) or Pre-Calc H
11th- AP Calc AB or AP Calc BC (some will opt for stats, but rare)
12th- AP Stats (lol slack off time) with some taking a math class at a local CC (multivariable, linear, etc.)
School prohibits concurrent enrollment in 2 classes of same subject in a single academic year (e.g. AB and Stats the same year) or taking AB and BC while at the school (e.g. AB in 11th, BC in 12th). Pre-Calc Honors stands as our school’s only math honors class.
There have been a couple people (<5 per class) going into PCH or either of the Calcs freshman year, but very rare.
9th grade: Algebra I, Geometry
10th grade: Geometry, Algebra II
11th grade: Algebra II, Precalculus
12th grade: Precalculus, AP Calculus AB and also AP Calculus BC or AP Statistics online
My school as 2 “accelerated” sequences. The first one is for people who are good at math and the other is for the people who are better.
Seq 1:
9th grade: algebra 2 (people usually take algebra 1 and geo in 7/8th grade at my school system for this sequence)
10th grade: precal
11th: AP calc AB/BC
12th: calc 3
Seq 2: (usually only one or two people in any grade level are following this, I am part of a year that had 4 which gleans us unwanted gawking in our classes)
9th grade: algebra 2, precal (or test out of one of the two)
10th grade: AP calc AB/BC
11th grade: calc 3, differential equations/linear algebra
12th grade: what you didn’t do in 11th grade and occasionally discrete mathematics.
Our high school has three advanced “tracks”. Track 1 (the more advanced) starts in 6th grade, Track 2 (the less advanced starts in 8th grade, and Track 3 (the least advanced) starts in 9th grade. You can take the advanced math test at any time to try and get into one of the tracks.
They are as follows:
Track 1:
8: Algebra 1 for 3 quarters, Geometry for one
9: a little less than a semester of Geometry, a little less than a semester of Algebra 2, remaining time filled with 1/4 of trig.
10: Pre-calc and rest of trig.
11: AP Calculus (You can technically take AP Stats but you then you can’t take a math class Senior year and you need to get about 500 signatures from parents, teachers, administraters etc.)
12: Go to local community college to take a Freshman math course.
Track 2:
Same as Track 1 except a year behind.
Track 3:
8: Algebra 1
9: Geometry and intro to trig
10: Algebra 2 and some trig
11: Pre-Calc and rest of trig
12: AP Calculus
Algebra I used to be normal in 8th grade (and optional for 7th) except for kids needing remedial classes. The new normal is:
7th: pre-pre-Algebra
8th: pre-Algebra
9th: Math I (where Math I, II, and III are integrated Alg1, Geometry, Alg2/Trig, and some Statistics)
10th: Math II
11th: Math III
12: Precalculus
So, the new planned “advanced” track is:
7th: pre-pre-Algebra + 1/2 of pre-Algebra
8th: 1/2 of pre-Algebra + Math I
9th: Math II + 1/2 of Math III
10th: 1/2 of Math III + Precalculus
11th: Calc AB or Calc BC
12th: AP Stats or they might consider offering something after Calc BC, but they never did before (have to take evening classes at the CC), so why would they start now?
Slightly advanced:
Geometry, Algebra II, Precalc, Calc BC
Normally advanced:
Algebra II, AP Stat, Precalc, Calc BC (idk why lol)
Ahead of the curve (what I am doing):
Algebra II, AP Stat and/or Precalc, Calc BC, Vector Calculus Dual Enrollment
Mine has 2 tracks
Normally advanced:
8th: Algebra 1
9th: Geometry
10th: Algebra II
11th: Precalculus
12th: AP Calculus AB or BC
More advanced track:
7th: Algebra I
8th: Geometry
9th: Algebra II
10th: Precalculus
11th: AP Calculus AB or BC
12th: AP Stats or Calc 3 at a university
My weird, irregular track (lots of self study and extra stuff):
8th: Algebra I
9th: Geometry
Summer : Algebra II
10th: Precalculus + AP Calculus BC
Summer: Differential Equations and Linear Algebra
11th: Calculus 3, Partial Differential Equations, Intro to Higher Math
12th: Real Analysis 1, Abstract Algebra 1, Abstract Algebra II, Topology
6th - Regular 6th grade stuff, at a faster pace (not by much lol)
7th - Pre-Algebra we skip the whole “normal” 7th grade curriculum
8th - Advanced Algebra 1
9th - CP Geometry
10th - Advanced Algebra 2
11th - Pre-Calculus (no advanced course, you take it with seniors)
12th - AP Calculus AB
My school goes up to Calc 3 but very few people take it.
Most Advanced Math kids follow this path. Trig is taught over 3 years.
8th: Honors Algebra 1
9th: Honors Geometry +Trig
10th: Honors Algebra 2 + Trig
11th: Honors Precalc + Trig
12th: AP Calc AB OR AP Calc BC AND OR AP Statistics
More advanced
7th Honors Algebra 1
8th: Honors Geometry
9th: Honors Algebra 2
10th: Honors Precalc
11th: AP Calc BC (they could do AB or Stats, but most don’t)
12th: A college professor comes in and teaches Calc 3
Craziest path I have heard in my school…
2nd Grade: Honors Algebra 1
3rd: Honors Geometry
4th: Honors Algebra 2
5th: Honors Precalc
6th: AP Statistics
7th: AP Calc BC
8th: Calc 3 + Dual Enrolled
This kid skipped 9-12th grade.
8th - Algebra 1 then Half of Geometry
9th - Other Half of Geometry then Algebra II
10th - Accelerated Precalculus
11th - AP Calc AB or BC
12th - Multivariable Calculus (taught by GA Tech professor, must apply to get in)
Regular advanced:
7th: Algebra I
8th: Geometry
9th: Algebra II and Trigonometry
10th: Precalculus
11th: AP Calculus AB
12th: AP Calculus BC
Even more advanced:
7th: Algebra I
8th: Geometry
9th: Algebra II and Trigonometry
10th: Precalculus
11th: AP Calculus AB and BC
12th: Calculus III
Insanely advanced (this is only two kids in my grade):
7th: Algebra I and Geometry
8th: Algebra II
9th: Precalculus
10th: AP Calculus AB and BC
11th: Calculus III
12th: enrollment at local college
6th: Algebra
7th: Geometry
8th: Algebra 2
9th: AP Stats
10th: Pre-calc
11th: AP Calc BC or AC
12th: If you took AC you can take BC or AP Computer science I think and if you took BC AP computer science or Mulit-variable
My school is jacked up because there are kids like me who CBEd the heck out of classes and will be ready for AP on their first day of high school math. I’m in 7th and I take Geometry-the worst math class I have ever taken.
7th: Pre-Algebra
8th: Algebra I
9th: Geometry
10th: Algebra II
11th: Precalculus
12th: AB Calc
We have had 6 students over the past 5 years do this:
7th: Pre-Algebra / Algebra I
8th: Algebra I / Geometry
9th: Geometry + Algebra II / Algebra II
10th: Precalculus
11th: AB Calc
12th: BC Calc
I’m doing this:
7th: Pre-Algebra
8th: Algebra I
9th: Geometry
10th: Algebra II
11th: Precalculus/AB Calc (SS in free time)
12th: AB Calc/AP Stat/Calc II (SS in free time)/ Number Theory (SS in free time)
