What is the act score writing out of?

HEY GUYS

I took the act twice and last time I took it the score was clearly out of 36.
however, the second time I took it all it said was 9. I’m not sure what the total composite score it though.
Since I have to put it on my common application, the writing was out of 36, and my score is clearly not a 9

I got a 9 for all four sections. what does that mean?

For anyone who reads this and is curious, ACT changed it so going forward, all writing scores are out of 12 instead of 36. The four other sections (English, Math, Reading, Science) are all still out of 36.
