I just got my ACT scores back. It was my first time taking the test and i also took the writing section.

It says my composite score is 22

The writing section says i got a 8 out of 12. Right Underneath it it tells me my Writing/English Score is a 23. Does this mean my overall ACT test score is a 23? Im confused on whether only my writing section is considered a 23 or my whole test is general was scored as a 23, becuase i thought the writing score was strictly out of 12 points?

I may just be mized up and confused, but can anyone please explain what my final score is?

Your overall score is 22 but your overall writing/english composite is 23 but combined with your math and science and all it is 22. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks and I hope I helped.

Okay thats what I kind of thought but I had myself excited for a second thinking it bumped up to a 23. Either way Im retaking it 2-3 more times aiming for the 26-27 range. Thanks for the response

The Combined English/Writing score is not included in the Composite calculation, which is just the average of English+Mathematics+Reading+Science.. The essay is graded on a 1-6 rubric times two readers, so the possible essay max = 12, which ACT terms a "subscore."
