Hi all,

the question in stated in the title.

I know the website says that the average is 15units/semester.

But generally, is it possible/ normal to take like approx 20 per semester?

andddd... would i look crazy if i do that 1st semester of freshman year? xDD
thanks!

Honestly, just don’t do that. If you take ~15 your first semester and you find that you could have handled more, then take more in the Spring.

On the other hand, if you don’t need to take that many per semester, I would use your extra time to explore all the other things Cal has to offer and get involved in extracurriculars.

I agree with killmyentourage, but if you really do want to try 20 units you have until the fifth week to drop without consequences for most classes. Some technical and science courses enforce an earlier drop deadline so watch out for that as well.

It is possible to take 20 or more units in a semester, but mainly if you choose light workload per unit courses (not lab or term project or otherwise high workload per unit courses).

Hey guys, thanks for all your input.

Out of the 20 units I mentioned above, 5 units are for French- which I am continuing from HS so yeah… I dont know yet, I think im choosing my courses like in mid July or something…

Another question: I have HL IB subjects which I know I could transfer credits for and I am aware of the “pushing up your level on teleBEARS” thing (sorry Idk how to word that better). But how exactly does it work? Who adds the credits onto teleBEARS and when and how would I see and know the prereqs would have been filled? (e.g. I know that Math HL credits for Math 1A, but would I be able to see that anywhere on any official records/teleBEAR?? )

many thanks!

IB HL credit may differ by major (e.g. the College of Engineering allows IB HL math with a sufficiently high score to fulfill both Math 1A and 1B).

I would be in the l&s when I arrive this August ;)

Ask your prospective major departments which math course(s) IB HL math will fulfill for the purposes of those majors.
