21 units

soo I wanna take 21 units for fall (theres a 2 unit seminar and some fun classes in there) but I saw on the L+S website that the max you can take per semester is 20.5.. well you can sign up for more than 20.5 units in telebears anyway right? sooo how would they enforce the 20.5 max, and would I then have to petition the dean or something?

20.5 may be the limit for L+S, but Telebears has to suit students other than L+S, therefore explaining the Telebears run around. I wouldn't bother the Berkeley bureaucracy over half a unit, they would probably scoff at such a request.

you can enroll in more than 20.5 on telebears, but the catch is once you are caught, your registration is frozen or something along those lines and u have to go in an explain the situation.

it's suppose to sound more terrible than i described

It's really not that hard to petition to the dean of L and S to be allowed to enroll in more than 20.5 units. It's not some "RED TAPE BEZERKELEY BUREAUCRACY NIGHTMARE." It's happy happy happy times.

Yeah, just let the administration know before you enroll in that many units.

The irony lies in your screenname.

hmm alright..

What is your schedule anyway, 21 units is kinda amazing to pull off

I'm takin physics 7a, e77, econ 101b (i might drop this one though if it ends up being too much), chinese 10ax (fun class for me), philosophy or history class (which i might p/np), and a 2-unit engineering seminar... soo honestly i dont think its that bad since im mixing in some fun classes in there

oh, and also, i have this terrible reasoning that the more classes I take, the better chance I have to raise my GPA.. yea, i just screw myself over all the time.. but hey, college is the place to learn more stuff and gain more knowledge right?

"the more classes I take, the better chance I have to raise my GPA"
That goes against common sense.

My friend started with ~29.5 units, I watched him drop class after class until he was down to like 18 by the end of the semester.

But there's nothing wrong with doing 20+ units, I am. Just don't expect your GPA to be very high.

Ironically, I had went from an light course load to a heavy course load and my gpa didn't change at all.

lol.. that's why i said it's terrible reasoning.. I understand that it's harder to maintain a good GPA with more classes..

"Ironically, I had went from an light course load to a heavy course load and my gpa didn't change at all."

I think part of it is because you know you have a lot to do, so you work harder/get whatever needs to be done done. whereas the lighter load you relax a bit.

It was actually the opposite.

"There's too much work to do, I'm going to stop caring and play video games."

I became even a bigger slacker and my courseload is still going to keep increasing. I went from 3 tech classes to 4 tech classes and this coming fall, I have 5 tech classes in addition to working and possibly researching :).

I'm the type of person where no matter how much work there is, it'd still get completed the same way on the same timeframe if there wasn't any other work to do.

Although I agree that taking, say 5 tech courses or 20 units is definitely doable while maintaining a good GPA (3.5-3.8 range), it makes life suck. I mean, if you like working that much, that's up to you. I personally hated taking 20 units. Occassionally it will be worth it, when the greatest prof is teaching that one class you have to take, but you don't want to drop any others. But I'd avoid it in general (though you'll never know how you like it unless you try it).

5 tech courses and no class on Friday and minimal classes on Monday. :)
It works out nicely.

I'm not too interested in getting a high GPA, I just want to get all my classes out of the way.
