What is the best business major?

I’ve heard business administration is a terrible major, so I’m wondering what the alternatives are. Based on job outlook, starting salary, and potential for growth.

I’d suggest you start off by taking intro business classes in a number of disciplines and see where your interests and aptitudes lie. Offhand I’d say IT and accounting are very employable majors.

Hospitality is a good alternative to business admin with a lot of job opportunities, about $40,000 starting salary and there is a lot of room for growth, especially in hotels and restaurants. The jobs oftentimes come with really long hours and a lot of stress, on the downside.

If you’re looking for the best job outlook, salary and growth potential, healthcare is #1 followed by engineering.
However that is just the overall look at it.

There are some business careers that are much better than some healthcare and engineering careers.
For example: The avg salary for financial analysts is $92,250 and growing at 15.5%

Hope that helps @db1128

You have to be careful with your wording. To me, “business administration” includes the following majors: finance, accounting, marketing, management, info systems, production & operations management and more.

Some schools may offer a “general business” degree as well. I would agree general business isn’t a great choice, but not sure how you could go wrong with accounting or finance (assuming one is interested in the subject matter).
