What is the best-paying undergrad major?

Hello all,

I am currently an undergrad about to decide on a major and I just wanted your opinions on what the best-paying majors are for jobs straight out of college. The engineering majors are out of the question, so besides those, what are the highest paying majors? I am leaning strongly towards international relations, but I also want to be able to get a job after college - perhaps on Wall Street.

I am also interested in what jobs are available to people with international relations degrees? I am also interested in getting an analyst job with some large international bank.

Also, what do you guys think are the best PhD concentrations? I've heard that many PhD degrees aren't worth it and the ones that are take an exorbitant amount of time to complete. I am looking into a PhD in anywhere from economics to international policy.

Thank you for your time!

bump… does anybody want to voice their opinion?

After engineering, you are probablylooking at majors like accounting, computer science, economics, finance, and math.

The best major for the PhD is one in which you have a passionate quest for knowledge. As for worth, here is a list with some salaries for professors.

Wow that is very interesting. Thank you!

Another note: I am a borderline pre-med who is deciding between pursuing a PhD (perhaps in politics) as an alternative/fallback to medical school. I just don’t want to become a casualty of the competition and become a PhD on food stamps.

You’re welcome.

Is your plan to study Poli Sci and take the necessary courses to apply for med school?

Also, here is a salary report of poli sci profs that is a few years old. I believe it still has some information value.
https://www.apsanet.org/media/PDFs/Resources/Salary2008%20Report%20ver2.0.pdf

My intended major is international relations and/or health policy. I will also complete all the pre-med requirements. So at the end of my four years here, I will have the option of either going to medical school or graduate school. Of course, I could take the GRE and MCAT and apply to both or just apply to medical school and if not accepted, apply to graduate school the next cycle after completing a year of work.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I wish you the best.
