I need advice on choosing the best residence hall to reside at. Can you guys give me a little description of each dormitory to choose from if possible. Thanks!
Since no one is replying, I will help you out. I was in the same position you in when I was coming to stony brook.
There are 6 quads in total. 3 corridor and 3 suite
Corridors are Roosevelt, H- Quad and Mendolsohn
Roosevelt - Oldest building on campus besides the new yang hall. Interior is alright, bathrooms are small. The rooms are also small relative to other corridor rooms. It can get hot quickly. It is adjacent to West Side Dining for quick access to meals. The mail room is located here.
H-Quad- Along with Tabler, one of the farthest quads from central campus. Rooms are spacious, if you want space go to this one. H-quad has their own basketball court and is the closest quad to tennis courts.
Mendolsohn Quad - Rooms are slightly smaller than H-quad. It is located closer to campus. There is a parking lot right behind mendosohn. Close to Jasmine dining and the Union dining. Bathrooms and showers are similar to H-quad but differs from Roosevelt. The mail room is located here.
Suites are Roth, Tabler and Kelly.
Roth - closest dorm to campus, good for fast access to west dining and to big classes located at Javits Center. There is a pond in the middle which occasionally freezes up in the winter(You can walk over it if you dare) Rooms are quite small, the common room as well but there is an AC.
Tabler - Quite far from campus, kind of isolated so at night, people would smoke pot in the middle clearing. It has its own Tabler arts center if you are in to that stuff. Has its own dunkin donuts. Rooms are bigger than Roth but their bathrooms are inferior.
Kelly- Located right next to West Dining. Big rooms especially for a suite. Interior is alright, a bit old but the rooms are better. Only quad to have balconies I believe. Staircases are triangular for whatever reason.
Let me know if you have further questions.
