So I’m gonna cover a few things, let’s get into it.
There’s two types of living accommodations:
-Corridor: H quad, Mendelson Quad, most of Roosevelt Quad. I say most of Roosevelt Quad because if you are given an assignment in Roosevelt Quad, I would say you are almost guaranteed to live in a corridor building such as Wagner, but there is only ONE building (Yang) that is a beautiful building with big rooms and is overall great. The thing is incoming freshman will most likely not get this since a lot of people on campus want to live here. I don’t know much about H quad and Mendy Quad except that the rooms are pretty big just because it’s corridor style, and it’s pretty close to all the academic buildings, and a new dining hall opened this semester and it has the best food (East Dining). A lot of student athletes are housed in these 2 quads.
-Suites: Toll (reserved for upperclassmen), West Apartments (upperclassmen), and the rest are for anyone - Roth Quad, Tabler Quad and Kelly Quad. I was personally placed into Roth Quad (science and society) and I later found out that this quad is highly in demand. So I’m going to go into a little bit more information about each quad:
-Roth Quad: (I live here)
-Closest suite style housing to academic buildings
-Has a pond where a lot of Geese are, there's a lot of poop in the beginning of fall semester
-If you live here you're probably going to eat at Roth Cafe a lot, and the food here is probably the worst on campus -
that is, students complain about it the most (I’ll get into food more)
-The rooms itself are pretty small, but that’s because you have a living room and a bathroom, and in my personal opinion I felt that my room was the perfect size (also tip: typically room C in suites in Roth Quad is the largest compared to A and B)
-You don’t really see too many people in your building and unlike corridor, you won’t talk to people on your floor too much unless you make an effort, but even then they usually will not talk to you much
-AC! Every building in this quad has AC, unlike other quads! Some other quads have ACs in specific buildings, but Roth guarantees an AC in every room… but after the first month or two of school no one really cares anymore. Me personally, I love the AC and would die w/o it
-Tabler Quad (sorry for anyone who has to live here)
-Suite style
-Probably furthest from academic buildings
-Have to go up a bunch of steps or up a hill every time to get to your dorm
-Room set up is pretty much the same as in roth quad minus AC
-Not much else to say except everyone on campus basically agree it sucks to live here, BUT at least it's suite style!
-There's a great building called the TAC where you can do work, only place to have Dunkin Donuts and also have a SINC site where you can do work, so you don't have to walk all the way to academic buildings on main part of campus to do work
-Kelly Quad
-People who live here typically like it
-One building I believe has AC in this quad
-Balconies! This is the only quad that has a balcony in each suite
-Not as close to campus as Roth, but not as far from campus as Tabler. There's always a bus here that goes to main part of campus so I wouldn't say it's a big deal about distance.
-Suite style, similar set up as Roth/Tabler but from what I've seen, the rooms are a tad bit bigger
NOW let’s get into FOOD
There are 5 main dining areas on campus
-Jasmine in Wang Center
-SAC Cafeteria
-East Dining
-West Side
-Roth Cafe
Campus uses a few different ways of paying for food… there’s dining dollars (which is just basically money on your card that you can spend) and this is used at Jasmine and SAC and parts of East. There are also meal-swipes which if when you swipe into a dining hall and eat buffet-style. This is in East, West and Roth. I believe they are trying to change the system now because there were many problems with it.
Ranking food from best to worst (meal-swipes): East, West, Roth
Ranking food from best to worst (dining dollars): I would say everywhere is great. There is variety but people complain that food is too expensive. In Jasmine there’s a lot of Asian cuisine such as lo mein, sushi, chicken curries, and lots of dishes I don’t even really know how to spell. In East there’s halal food, a burrito bowl place, and a kosher deli, as well as a southwest grill. In SAC there’s salads, sushi, pizza, pasta, soups, burgers, fries, and other snacks. Really just depends what you’re into.
Hope that was helpful. I might post some more stuff - tell me what else you’d like to know about.
