I am an out of state student and I feel that my 1340 (2000) and 31 on ACT are too low to be a credible applicant for UVA, disregarding any other admission factors.

I would like to know that answer to this question as well.

UVa does not publish statistics on accepted students broken down by in state vs OOS.

^^which is why OP is asking…?

We can’t give accurate data that isn’t released. The OP asked a valid question that others have asked. Other universities do give this data. UVa does not. I simply let them know what they were looking for wasn’t officially available from UVa. If someone else wants to give their opinion that’s fine. The OP needs to understand it is just that…an outside opinion.

FWIW…UVa has repeatedly stated that the admission process is holistic, so SAT score alone does not make or break an applicant. So, I would apply if your grade and class rank are in the ball park (I personally think that these are far more important to UVa than SAT).

But, as an anectodal data point, my D’s class has something like 20 kids (all in the top 5%) applied to UVa. Only 2 were accepted. The rest was wait listed and none of them got off the list. They all have SAT around 2200 or better. They ended up in schools like Michigan, Notre Dame, UNC and NYU.

We are from OOS, so it is really, really tough to get in UVa. So I would apply, but have a plan B.

These are some great points creazydad. Apply if you are interested!! Do not let stats scare you away. At the same time have a plan B that includes academic and financial safeties.

I would say a 33 or 2200 for your score to neither help nor hurt you. Anything higher I believe would help your application.

The only stats I can give you that might help you are my own. As an OOS student, I sent in my 2220 and 34, and was accepted as an Echols Scholar. I agree with crazyadad, UVA admits holistically. Maybe if you were to post a more detailed profile in the chance forum, the folks over there could give you a better idea of your admission chances.

When I applied in fall 2005, my 1510/2290 SAT got me deferred (then accepted regular decision). Even great SAT scores do not guarantee an admit OOS. Seconding what has been said: UVA is very holistic, and you should have a back up no matter what your SAT scores are (high or low).

UVA is my biggest reach, so I am not dependent on it’s acceptance. Thanks for the help
