Generally it’s families who are lower-middle class or below that have issues with obesity. They can’t afford healthy food that often because it’s quite expensive and they don’t have the supplies or knowledge to cook healthy meals. Therefore, lower class citizens often buy/eat cheaper food that is already prepared or easy to prepare. Ex: fast food, microwaved meals, etc. So basically obesity/overweight-ness is not just about lack of self-control. The fact that healthy food and fresh produce is more expensive than junk food creates a huge problem.

I know that feel Yakisoba.

People just like to blame their own failings on something else.

@vivendium…Eh, that’s only part of it. Advertising and the fact that society has become more sedentary as a whole as a result of technology are other reasons. Plus, fast food is just quicker (and of course, as you said, cheaper) and everything these days is all about go, go, go.

Honestly, it’s because people suck at math. Check the serving sizes on the foods you eat.

The #1 issue on CC is getting a 2390 on the SAT.

If there were just a few obese people, that would make sense.
But when 2/3 of Americans or obese (or whatever it is now), it seems absurd to suggest that we all just suddenly turned into giant failures.

Also, a lot of people start becoming obese as kids, when what they eat is controlled by other people. It’s very hard to get rid of obesity if you were basically born into it, and it’s different from someone who started out normal and just suddenly started eating junk all the time.

First of all the measure for judging obesity is stupid. BMI is honestly the stupidest thing ever. It doesn’t even consider differences between sexes. It also doesn’t take into account muscle. I don’t know how anyone takes it seriously.

Secondly, crappy parents seem to be a bigger problem.

When I know I’m not supposed to overeat, I just chug down a ton of water. Works every time.

The government imposing itself where it shouldn’t is a pretty damn big deal. As far as obese kids, they need to change themselves. It’s not difficult to eat less, fatties. Poverty is a problem but I don’t think the Feds should take my hard earned dough and give it to someone who is going to waste it unproductively. We probably just need an educated population. From education comes success. But I do really hate fat people.

Most important issue? certainly corruption. and everything else starts from this thing.
