What is the point of offering/taking this test? It seems like most schools require the writing, so it would make sense to have it. Sure a few don't require it, but they also accept it with writing.

The test with writing lets one use the ACT for 100% of schools. The test without lets one use it for 30%. What is the point of taking it without writing?

A huge number of people apply to their state public university that does not require it, and that’s the only school they apply to.

The point is, you may search at act.org for the schools you are going to apply to see if it requires writing or not. If not, you may save that $15 and 30min. There are 10 or so states that no schools require the writing part. The funny thing is, even U of Illinois requires the writing part, the state sponsored ACT test does not include the writing part and there is no option other than taking the whole test with full expenses again.

It is really silly. The test they give out to everyone in April has no writing part. Stupid to have to take the entire thing again.

Regardless, I think I will be taking the test again because my first test score will be much less than ideal.
