For engineers, I’ve heard that they need Zero free electives? Does free electives give people a higher advantage? If we did a class at a cc that is not transferable, would it still show up on our cal poly transcript as free elective?

Free electives are mostly for liberal arts majors to give us like a well rounded liberal arts education. Engineers don’t get any free electives, but I think some of you get technical electives. There is no advantage to having free electives, it’s just cause we have different courses of study and stuff. Any credits you may have that transfer but don’t fulfill any requirements you need will probably transfer as elective credit.

So, it doesn’t give you a priority in choosing classes?

nope, it doesn’t give you any priority. It does make it a lot easier/possible to take on a minor though, since your free elective credits can usually be used to complete minor coursework. That’s why I haven’t heard of many engineers with minors compared with say liberal arts majors working towards a minor.
