I am an international student (who took a gap year) going to UC Davis this fall to study Computer Science (BS). Now that that background information is out of the way, I have an issue filling the my DS-160 for an F-1 visa due to a question asked in the “SEVIS Information” subsection: what is your program number?
So what is it? Is it the number written below the name of my major on the form I-20? Where can I find about it (preferably an official website)?
Also, the DS-160 FAQs don’t answer my specific questions (such as this one), neither does the customer service of the US consulate in my region, so do you guys know any US governmental contact (preferably email) for asking specific DS-160 doubts?
Thanks in advance.
The International Student Office at UC Davis would be a good point of contact for those sorts of questions.
The program code is a field that /should/ only apply to J-1 applicants and it’s shown on their DS-2019 form. You wouldn’t have one. The closest analogue for F-1 applicants would be the school code on your I-20.
Did you get program code field on your real DS-160 form, or are you looking at the sample PDF version (which I suspect is for a J-1 applicant)?
You’re right: I was looking at the DS-160 sample. But now I have got my visa, so thanks!
