Compared to schools in the U.S. and around the world (I am also considering Stanford which doesn't have a Neuroscience undergraduate program, Brown University, UC Berkeley, UCLA).

I want to know the reputation and popularity of specifically the Neuroscience programs (research opportunities, etc... I know the McGill undergrad only takes 50 people each year, so very competitive.).

I am trying to find a balance between overall reputation of the school and the Neuroscience programs when choosing a school...

Thanks in advance!

Neuroscience McGill is one of the most historically prestigious departments at the university. Associated great researchers include Wilder Penfield, who did his groundbreaking work in neural stimulation and neural mapping while at McGill and Donald Hebb (ie. discoverer of the the Hebbian synapse) was also both a graduate student and later a professor at McGill.

McGill’s continues to attract top researchers in neuroscience, including the great British researcher Brenda Milner who is CURRENTLY a professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill.

In terms of neuroscience pedigree McGill is among the best universities in the world.

Thanks for your detailed answer! So would you recommend me to go to McGill undergrad compared to Neuroscience/Neurobiology programs in UC Berkeley, Brown, Columbia, etc? My highest concern is my chances at going into a good Neuroscience grad school.

Thanks! I found that the website also says there are opportunities for undergrad too!

I cant really compare the neuroscience department at McGill vs Berkeley, Brown, Columbia or UCLA because I really don’t know much about neuroscience at these universities aside from McGill. I suggest you ask about that in Forums devoted to each of these universities.
BTW I was very surprised when you said Stanford doesn’t have a neuroscience department.

All I know is that McGill has been associated with some of the most important names and discoveries in the history of the fields of neuroscience/neurosurgery/neuropsychology, and continues to draw top researchers to its faculty.

Let me say this again

REPUTATION DOESN’T MATTER IN UNDERGRAD.

( except for professional programs such as medicine, engineering, law, etc.)

Western is a good university to get into and I think you have the marks to get in.
