What is the threshold SAT score

at what point assuming a pretty balanced score, should you not retake the test. For instance if you score a 2250 with a 730 750 770 should you just stop there? What is the point where it is "enough" for just about any school?

A 2250 is really good. I guess that it really matters based on what you personally want to receive and also what college you are looking to get into. With the scores that you posted, I would only retake it if you are shooting for somewhere near perfect. I additionally believe that a 2250 is good enough for many schools.

Colleges are not gonna care if you got a mistake on a maths section. They will, however, care about you as a person and what you can offer/provide.

2400, do or die.

I think if you have a balanced 2250, you probably shouldn’t retake it, but they definitely exceptions. If you got that score you first try, and feel you have the time/energy/capability to get a higher score, it is probably worth another shot. If you are trying to be eligible for certain scholarships that require a certain score, it would also make sense.

I would say 2250 with a minimum of 700 in each section.

Do you think taking it again past a certain point might actually look bad? Like taking after getting a 2300 in a single sitting?

There is no solid answer to it. If one scored 2300 at his first attempt and feels he could definitely do better than that, there should be nothing holding him back. It will look bad if one keep trying over and over to push the limit. I know one student who is at Yale graduating soon that she got 35 in ACT and retake to get 36 for the presidential scholarship.
