What is this mean?

my app. status changed to “hold” today. what is that mean? is this better then waitling list? if so, why?

What do you mean by waiting list? I thought on the status it just said, precandidate, candidate, L.O.A, or Appointment. I've been checking mine every day since I hear the status will change a couple days before you get the appointment.

There's 2 parts on the top. The first is "YOUR STATUS". The 2nd is "APPLICATION STATUS". Which should eventually change to "APPOINTMENT STATUS".

The "YOUR STATUS" can change from PROSPECT to APPLICANT to CANDIDATE. Sometimes it will skip straight to CANDIDATE if you already have a nomination.

The APPLICATION STATUS will change from "INCOMPLETE" to "COMPLETE" once your application is done and ready for review by the board.

If your application has been reviewed by the board and you are offered an appointment or an LOA, it will change to "APPOINTMENT STATUS" and say "APPOINTMENT OFFERED" or probably "LOA OFFERED" (My son got an appointment, so I'm guessing on the LOA part).

So, the question is; "What does the header of the 2nd line say"? If it says: "Application Status", and the word HOLD is next to it, then your application is on hold for whatever reason. If the 2nd line says: "APPOINTMENT STATUS" and the word HOLD is next to it, then that would imply that the board has reviewed your application and is holding an Appointment/LOA pending review of remaining candidates. However, I have never really heard of this. I have heard of "Application Status" changing to HOLD. Usually it's because of a questionable medical review. I,e, You put in for a medical waiver and they are waiting on the results. Or some other questionable change in the application.

Remember, when all is said and done, there will be between 3000-6000 applications that the 1300-1600 appointments will be given out of. Of those, the vast majority are given in March. Those given this early or "Usually" those who already had nominations such as a "Presidential", "Athletic", etc... There will be some applications that are reviewed in November, December, January, etc... that are border line. In other words, they are very good; as are most apps that get this far; just that they may or may not be in the top 1600. One reviewed this month may not make the LOA list initially, but could possibly still be in the top 1600. The academy has a lot of years of experience in selecting candidates/cadets. They know what the average accepted scores are. They know who will be the "No Brainers" and selected upon review, and which ones might need to wait until the end to see.

But as far as the "HOLD" issue goes; if the second line says "APPLICATION STATUS" and not "APPOINTMENT STATUS", then it's possible that the application is on hold awaiting some sort of change, waiver, etc... to the application.

I would suggest to call you ALO or your regional to find out. They would have the best answer, since obviously none of us here know the answer. Let us know when you find out.
I would agree with others that if says "hold" they may have found something and are waiting for further results i.e. how did you do on the CFA? or your DODMERB?

I believe you have posted before that you are ONLY applying to the Merchant Marine Academy, is that correct?

If so, all the answers you are getting in the US Air Force Academy section will probably be specific the the USAFA admission status web site, and have absolutely no bearing on your question, as they do not pertain to the USMMA on-line status page.

You need to post in the USMMA section, or call Kings Point admissions to ask them. They are wonderful at helping midshipman candidates.

Once it says you have a nomination and a letter of assurance, how long should it be till the appointment status changes?
