Online Status Update Question?

OK folks; got a question. Of those of you who have received an LOA or appointment to the air force academy so far; have any of you noticed a “CHANGE” in the “status” of your online application?

Here’s the deal. We; meaning I, my son, and the ALO, were expecting an appointment pretty much immediately. The academy counselor said that my son was actually the first completed application in the country. This was back in July. Said that he would most definitely be “Considered” during the early reviews. As some of you were notified in Mid-October. His gpa, ranking, act/sat, etc… were all great, so there was no reason to think he wouldn’t get an appointment. (He also has a presidential).

Anyway, I’ve seen about 16 LOA/Appointments mentioned so far on the other thread. Still no letter. ALO contacts the academy counselor who keeps saying that there is nothing to worry about. That it looks good, etc… Weeks go by, and still nothing in the mail.

Now, I’ve also been following my son’s online status since day 1. Since everything has been done, his application has ALWAYS SAID. “YOUR STATUS: CANDIDATE” and “APPLICATION STATUS: COMPLETE”

Today it says; “YOUR STATUS: CANDIDATE” and “APPOINTMENT STATUS: APPOINTMENT OFFERED”

So, is that what has changed on some of y’all? Just thinking that maybe his letter got lost in the mail or some other snafu. ALO is definitely calling the academy counselor tomorrow to find out. The ALO said that she’s never seen the online status update and change prior to the candidate or ALO getting a letter or notification or something.

Both I and my son, while excited, are still cautious until we get an actual piece of paper in our hands saying he received an appointment. Anyway, thanks… Later… Mike…

All I can say is: Congratulations. :)

Congrats! Looks like another early appointment.

Sounds good to me. Congrats to you both!

Thanks all. But having spent 21 years in the Air Force, I've come to realize that until I see it in writing, nothing is guaranteed. It's seeming more like the actual letter may have gotten lost in the mail. (We still use Pony Express here in Wyoming). If the counselor verifies the appointment with the ALO tomorrow, we'll see if she can send out another copy. Thanks again.

P.s. Did any of you remember when your application status changed online?

I recall that the sequence was very similar to what you described - the letter arrived shortly (within a week or so) after the change on the website. Son had nominations from both House member and Senator but no phone call beforehand from either MOC or ALO.

Christcorp, for both of my daughters, one now a C4C and the other now an Appointee with the Class of 2012, the online status did not change until after the official letter had been received. There was, in fact, a fairly significant delay, maybe two weeks, from the time the Appointment decision was made and the online status changed. Within those two weeks, a call had been received to notify us of the Appointments and the official letters had been received. So, it sounds like there is some administrative process glitch somewhere in the system. From what you describe with respect to your son, it sounds like the glitch is in the letter/phone call process and not a mistake in the online status. Hope this helps.

My application status changed from complete to letter of assurance within 2-3 days of recieving the letter.

Maybe USAFA is going GREEN, utilizing the technology!

If you want Paper in your hand, use the Print Button from the website.

Quote ""I've also been following my son's online status since day 1""

Is this what they call a hoover parent?

No a Hoover parent is one that grew up in the great depression, lol. Congrats to christcorp. I never saw an "appointment offered" status, just a "Letter of Assurance" status, but maybe I just didnt check at the right time.

I will check son's site when he gets home, but he nevered mentioned a change in his "status."

Congrats to S, Christcorp; I don't think you are a hover parent. I just think you follow those things that are of paramount importance to your child (like this fencersmother).

Son's status has indeed changed to "Letter of Assurance," but was only updated yesterday.

Well, I guess there must have been issues with the mail. If we don't see a letter tomorrow or Tuesday; (Monday's a holiday), then I'll call the academy counselor on Tuesday afternoon.

It would have been nice to have known today, but I was in meetings all day and couldn't call down there. Would have really pumped my son up for tomorrow. Son's got "State Championship Football" game tomorrow afternoon. Right now he needs to stay focused on that. 3rd year in a row to state and they came in 2nd place the last 2 years. Senior year and all, they really want this.

Anyway, I'll see if we get anything in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday. We'll let you all know. Later.... Mike......

WHAT A DAY!!!!. The academy appointment came in the mail today. Dated November 2nd; postmarked November 8th. (They sent the entire appointment package. Including where to sign for acceptance and everything else.

I didn't tell my son initially, because he had already left the house to head to the "State Championship Football" game. This is their 3rd year in a row to the state championship game, and they came in 2nd the last 2 years. This year they did it. Including a 47 yard field goal by my son at the end of the game to get the other team out of reach; plus he made an interception with less than a minute to go while they were trying a last minute catch up. My son's team won state; 24-14.

I didn't tell him about the academy until after the game to keep him focused. While he was on cloud 9 for winning state, I told him about this REALLY BIG envelope from the academy that said "APPOINTMENT OFFER ENCLOSED". That put him over the top. Went from cloud 9 to cloud 13. What a perfect day for him. It doesn't get much better. Later... Mike......

Good to hear. Won't forget that day now! :)

That's great to hear, sounds like an AWESOME day. Congratulations again!

Oh Mike! What a great day for you and your son!!! Congrats and back-pats all around.

Is there a link or can you post a video of your son's field goal? I would love to watch it!

Great job, all around!

Thanks fencermother. Here's a link from the local TV station. It won't stay on long, so watch it quick if you can.

KGWN

click on the watch video where it says

East Wins 5A State Football Title; More HS Football Title Scores

It will probably change by this evening with the new news. Let me know if it doesn't work. I copied it, so if you can't see it, let me know and I will post it on one of my servers. He also has a 1 handed interception and short interview on the video also. Thanks again. Later... Mike....

Very cool...Congradulations. You should contact the station and get a copy of the tape. Nice memory to have later on.

Thx; we recorded it off of the television on the news. Plus I have it on PC on one of my servers. I've got a lot of these throughout the season. What a ride.

Anyway, it looks like a lot of good things. Falcons are winning and should have a great bowl game. And a lot of our posters/kids are getting their LOA/Appointments. Doesn't get much better than this. Good luck to everyone. Later... Mike....
