What is Wellesley's alumni network like?

How great are the job connections that come with a Wellesley degree? I've not heard the best things from a few younger Wellesley alumni who tried to enter the workforce after graduation. This could just be because of the economy but I talked to a few students from Williams who said that alumni are even contacting them with job offers. Thoughts?

As a younger alum (Class of 2010), I can assure you that the alumni network is amazing. I haven’t seen anything like it when I’ve compared notes with my friends who graduated or attend other schools (e.g., other top LACs, Ivys, top public schools, etc).

The Wellesley network really goes out of their way to help you out … in some cases whether you know it or not. Alums have always been there to answer my questions about getting into a job industry, what the job search is like, etc. More often than not, they’re able to connect me with a recruiter at their office or pass along my resume to the hiring manager. Often times, I’ve interviewed with Wellesley alums or the hiring managers turn out to be Wellesley alums – that’s always a plus in the job search :)

Jobs aside though, it’s really the COMMUNITY of alums that makes Wellesley special. You don’t just reach out to an alum when you need a job – Wellesley alums offer so much more than that. Alums are there when you need someone to talk to about anything – whether that’s school, jobs, family life, if you need help moving to another city, or need to track down a package in a foreign country. As silly as that sounds, Wellesley alums jump through hurdles to help you out. And this is just the tip of the iceberg…

I can go on and on about this, but bottom line: the alum network is there. And you won’t find another womens’ network like it anywhere else.

Happy to answer more specific questions about it if you have any! :)

I only speak for myself, but I have found the Wellesley network immensely helpful. A Wellesley alum was instrumental in helping me get my first job. (I just graduated in May). The vast majority of Wellesley alums I have contacted through the “W Network” have responded to my queries.

One thing that happens at Wellesley that seems to be less common at other schools is that there are many friendships formed across class years. Thus, I have older Wellesley alums who are an excellent resource for me. I also try to helpful to my younger “Wellesley siblings.”
