What is wrong with Berkeley????

I am starting get really p i ssed off with these threads dumping on Berkeley.

The more I spend time on this site, the more I doubt my choice to attend this school. I want to know when to send in the deposits not why Berkeley people suck.

So I beg of the students who actually enjoy their college experience at Berkeley to defend the school. I feel like choosing Berkeley over UCLA is a mistake. But there must be a reason why almost 30,000 ppl attend the school and why it is ranked so high.

Obviously ppl who hate it are most likely to talk about it, but for this freshmen admit, it sucks seeing those ppl take over the Berkeley CC.

Life lesson #1 - make up your own mind and don’t pay attention to what other people think. Very, very important life lesson. Good for you to get into Berkeley! Your college experience will be up to you and what you make of it. Work hard, get involved, have fun and be so very proud to go to Berkeley. Go Bears!

thanks man, that is a great lesson. Honestly, I shouldnt let others make my college experience for me.

I guess that people who are upset with their choice express their negative feelings more often than people who are satisfied or happy with Berkeley. I guess they just need to vent, while the people who are okay with Cal don’t really need to tell people about it all the time.

And you have to realize that because the internet is pretty anonymous, people can be asses and ■■■■■ others, but they wouldn’t have the balls to do it in real life. Also, there’s this recent flare-up between freshmen vs. transfers apparently that have some tensions high and some others more frustrated than upset.

Ultimately though, I’m happy to be at Berkeley over LA. That doesn’t mean I don’t miss the socal weather. I like the environment there, but UCLA (socal in general) just has the best weather ever in my opinion.

You’ll find out for yourself that CC is definitely not representative of what Berkeley is like.

I agree. I see a lot of people pi***** on Berkeley, when it is one of the most sought after Universities in the country. It must be somewhat okay, right? Keep in mind a few screennames seem to be the perpetrators of the hate; not the Berkeley posters on CC as a whole.

My brother loved his years at Berkeley and really has nothing bad to say about the school. He thought that the students were very intelligent and his professors were great. He is proud to be an alumnus.

I have another friend/acquaintance who is a current student at Berkeley who enjoys the school as well.

I’m glad I could help. It really is an important lesson to learn now while you are young. Trust me… It will come up many, many times in your adult life. You know yourself best. Don’t let anyone ever make you doubt yourself.

Well said! I hate this site now because people keep talking sh it about berkeley. it’s so annoying cuz i know people love it there and the haters are just filling up all these threads.

love how this thread is filled w/ people who don’t even go here.

Listen, you might actually like berkeley. I personally don’t and think that it’s an overrated crapfest but there are happy people here. It’s not my scene…it might be yours. Like someone said before, don’t listen to what other ppl say. half the reason I talk sh it on here about cal is to vent (even though most of the stuff i say is legitimate) and it’s not to discourage other ppl from coming here…make your own experience, don’t set yourself up to hate it.

I love Berkeley, pretty much everybody I know loves Berkeley. This forum is not representative of the actual student body at all. And if you really look carefully you’ll see that most of these long negative posts are by anonymous, batman, and the other anon (who might be a ■■■■■?). And both anon and batman and most of the people here are premed.

I lived in Unit 3 for 2 years - being in an urban environment surrounded by stores/restaurants and people all the time was pretty awesome. It’s just hard to stay bored or depressed when there’s always people around when you need a distraction and parties and SF trips to look forward to on weekends.

The few people who are pessimistic or depressed are the type of people who would choose to live in Foothill and go home every weekend if they could. Some of my high school friends who are at Berkeley get picked up to go home every Friday afternoon and come back Sunday night. Their reasoning: “If I’m just going to study anyway, why not do it at home where it’s quieter.” These people end up whining about how much the city of Berkeley sucks much more than anyone who actually lives in downtown Berkeley does.

So that’s a dis towards me?? My son will go there in the fall, and to be honest, I practice what I preach. I couldn’t care less what you think about my post or whether or not I go to Cal. I don’t give a ****. I was just trying to help some poor incoming freshman who was doubting his decision to attend Cal. I guess it makes you feel better to jump all over people’s happy posts… Have fun with that. Sounds like you will have a wonderful life (insert sarcasm here).

I’m with momfirst3 on this one.

And I’m being 100% honest when I say that EVERY single person I have met at Berkeley loves it here. I love it here. There’s no place I’d rather be. The academics are superb, the social life is great, the city scene is exciting.

If you’re unhappy, then blame yourself, not the university. Your college experience is what you make of it.

let’s calm down buddy, it wasn’t a “dis” (who uses that term anymore?) and it wasn’t specifically about you. I was saying that those who don’t even go here shouldn’t pass judgment on what life is like @ Berkeley…because frankly, they have no idea until they get here.

oh and thank you!
my life **is **awesome (apart from going to Cal :D)

That’s mam, to you… How many buddies do you know that are mom’s. And those from the older generation aren’t up to speed on our slang, but I do my best…

i don’t like it when moms and dads post…i’m with anonymousername on this one. lol.

sorry mom, its just that…its weird having you post on here with me…

No problem, to each his own. I’ve gotten some help and advice on this site. So sorry if you don’t like it. I do what I’ve got to do.

thnx mom you always understand

haha sure thing mam ;)

I personally think it’s good to have parents on this forum but usually when they’re looking to expand their own education. College age people are near or at adulthood and they should be able to do research on their own…not their parents (no offense).

But sometimes parents on here actually offer really good career advice. One in particular was a trauma surgeon who I PMed and learned a lot from.

hahahaha :-)

Please remember, I wasn’t doing research. I actually only asked what banks were near by. I felt bad for the OP who seemed to be really upset. It’s the mom in me. I just wanted he/she to feel better.

I wasn’t aware of the bank thread. We’re all friends!
