What kind of jobs can you get in BS in Economics ?

I heard there will be many good career choices as an Economics major if you get to a master, but what about just a bachelor's of science ? I was discussing this with my cousin the other day about majoring in Economics, and he asked what can I do with an ECON degree ? Going to a school, teaching economics ? Maybe because he is under the impression that an Economics is a social science, similar to Psychology. To be honest, I always thought Economics is a business degree, along with BA, Finance, Marketing, Accounting, etc.

Also, with a BS Economics degree, can you do jobs that a Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting major get ? Thanks.

Yes you can. There are people who work in management, consulting, finance, and accounting with Econ degrees. A lot of employers don’t care too much as long as it’s a degree related to business. Now that being said, to get into accounting with an economics degree for example, you would need to have accounting experience. Especially for the Big 4. That would require taking accounting classes and eventually obtaining your CPA license. Another example is people who get econ degrees and they go into investment banking. Some go into consulting at MBB. You still need relevant experience + networking but there is no reason why you can’t.

The big money in Economics is after you pursue higher education (Grad school) and you end up working in places like the federal reserve banks, state and federal government, and yes teaching as well. This is if you strictly want to stick with Econ vs. other routes like the ones listed above.
