I am in Honors English, not honors modern world history. Is APUSH essay writing anything like an honors english writing? What other skills should I have/ start working on to ensure success (to some extent) in an AP class?
Thanks

You should probably discuss this with someone at your school who has taken it. I think difficulty varies among schools and teachers. My son loves history. He has a lot of reading and essays. He says the tests often come from reading that was not lectured about. That’s how college is and AP is supposed to be college level. If you do well with Honors English I would think you will be fine. Just keep up with the reading.
The biggest difference involving writing is the DBQ but it’s fairly easy to master if you are good at writing in the first place (which I assume you are because you are in Honors English). As the other poster said, reading is extremely important. There is just too much to cover in class; you MUST read otherwise you will not get a good grade in the class.
Most of the writing is either putting historical knowledge on paper or analyzing documents. For the DBQs, you have to be able to read, plan, and write quickly and be able to organize your thoughts. I’m sure your teacher will help you with the specifics of it
I am currently in APUSH and doing well. As long as you have prepared yourself by studying, writing the essays (there are three types that your teacher will tell you about should you chose to take the class) should not be a problem for you. As with any AP class, as long as you are dedicated and study and do your work, things should fall into place, although some of it does depend on the teacher. My teacher has never pressured us to read the book for any essential knowledge and focuses more heavily on notes (unlike one of the users above), so I would ask students who have already taken the class at your school.
