I am in by the summer before my senior year. I’m applying ED to UPenn by Nov1. I have leadership in some activities, but from what I’ve heard, it’s very helpful to have a lot of business leadership if you are applying to Wharton.
I’m going to try to become president of future business leaders of america at my high school. What other impressive business leadership positions can I get before I apply? Or what business events can I take part in?
I’d say president of fbla is good, but have a backup plan if you are running against other people. Is there a way if you lose to become a chair?
Other leadership positions not necessarily related to business still look good on applications. You could try going the extra mile by starting a new club, maybe somewhat related to business.
The organizations in which you’ll be able to get meaningful leadership positions are those in which you’ve already shown yourself to be a leader.
If you haven’t already laid the groundwork, then it’s simply not going to happen. Either you were a motivator, a leader, a consistently strong member of the activities as a sophomore and a junior, or you weren’t
If you have DECA at your school, I highly recommend it. It’s a good extracurricular, with competitions, much like TSA but for business. If you can join it, do it, it’ll give you a good idea of what business is like, and it’s very fun! If you can’t do more in business extracurricularly, demonstrate your interest in business through your courses.
