What looks better to YOU?!

I was just wondering which SAT score you think would look better to colleges:

Score 1:

CR: 770
M: 770
W: 770
T: 2310

Score 2:

CR: 800
M: 710
W: 800
T: 2310

Which do you think would look better, considering they are the same total but one shows more balance whereas the other one shows more material mastery. Whaddya think???

Score 2, because i automatically recognize the 800s. Material mastery is very important.

THe first one  3x770 is better than 2 x 800 + 710 .If you send colleges these 3 x 700 ,they will know that luck was the only thing that prevented you from 2400.But if you send this 710 ,they will think you have missed some knowledge

^No, you’re wrong. Score one is much more impressive. Getting 750+ on each section will put you in the top 50th percentile even at MIT, yet a 710 math is low for schools like MIT. Not to mention that most schools look at scores individually, not as a composite score, and value M+CR higher than the composite.

They’re both very good, I would say #1 is better because writing isn’t that important (and so it’s comparing a 1540 to a 1510), but the 800 in CR is very impressive, especially if the applicant is declaring a major in the humanities.

Score 1. 770’s across the board is extremely impressive.

Score 1 because it shows superior mastery across the board whereas score 2 demonstrates superior mastery in 2 subjects + 1 almost weakness (compared relatively).

Would it be stupid for me to say send in both? 800’s aren’t something i’d want to hide from a college

Send both. Most colleges superscore, so they’ll consider your top scores in each section. You’d have a 2370 superscored score, which is great. I love how the people on this site consider a 710 a weak score in a section (it’s not).

I think the second one looks more appealing because of the 800’s but I believe in terms of admission, the first one would be best.
I would honestly just be annoyed and want to get those 3 to 800 if I was that close, though. (easier said than done, ha.)

I think the 770x3 looks better. Missing one or two questions is no big deal. The SAT is supposed to test your logic or intelligence or something (really, it just tests how well you do on the SAT), so I think it’s more impressive if you’re well-rounded. On the other hand, on an “achievement” test like the ACT or an AP exam, I’d be more impressed with some outliers and a few above average scores.

I think you should send both
they will see that you scored 800
and they will know that you are capable of 770 in math, and that for some resone you “screw” up math in this test

Wait, is this an actual or a hypothetical scenario?

I got the sense that it was a hypothetical scenario. I think the first looks better; many people suffer the problem of the second which is being weak in one section and not being able to pull that up, whereas there are few people who can perform strongly in all three sections.

Yea it seems to be hypothetical…

It really depends on the school. I know that for schools I would want to apply to like MIT #1 is way better because math is very important (its not that difficult so an engineering school would get suspicious if it were too low).

But if u wanna go to a humanities school where nobody is interested in math/science then go #2.

And if its a mixed school I would send both.

Ah, the only section where I have both of these scores (770 and 800) is CR. Besides that, I am straight up a score two girl, but even worse with a 700 instead of 710 in M.

From some posts in here it sounds like the OP might have both? In that case I would send both because they’re both great. But otherwise, 770 across the board is better. But few colleges really expect more than 710. MIT is the only uni I can think of (besides maybe some weirdo place like Deep Springs) and its range is 720-800.

But I would be so effing frustrated with 3x 770. I’d want to retake ti get my 800s!

Score 1.

770 M could’ve easily been 800 on another test date. The writing doesn’t weigh as heavily, and 770 CR is phenomenal.

To the OP, I have to say… does it really matter?

Send them both, they’re both absolutely fantastic.

I personally do not have either lol. I have a 2320 T witha 770 CR, 790 M, 760 W.

Why even ask the question then?
