I am applying to the CSB program, in which it a program where Computer Science and Business et mixed into one degree.
However, with my current class rank and GPA, I don’t think I’ll be getting into such an honors program. So I am deciding if I should apply to computer science or statistics in order to become a data scientist.
Assuming Google is correct, both computer science and statistics are among the most frequently held undergrad degrees for data scientists. If that it the case, your best option might be the major that you have the best chance of getting in to.
What are your stats?
I would think that your odds are going to be a bit better applying to statistics. Your SAT is great, but rank is well outside of the top 6%. CS is an incredibly popular major, and you’ll be competing with a large pool of similar SAT with better rank.
It’s hard to get in to UT as an in- state student who is not auto-admit though.
