What majot to apply to cal as?

Im aiming at cal.
im applying for fall 2012. heres the classes i will for sure complete by spring 2012.
physics w/ calc series.
calc 3, liner alg, differential equation, discrete math.
2 english courses. (articulated to eng 1A and 1B at ucb)
art history
general physch
MATLAB.
2 C++, 2 java, 4 unites each. not articulated to cal's cs.
and ap scores:
calc ab and bc, stat, bio, chem, econ, environmental science with 5
gov with 4

hopefully i can maintain a 4.0, with no or little EC/work, decent essay,

I am having trouble deciding what major to apply as. I will be a 1 year transfer, meaning that I have only about 10 classes that i have completed by fall, and complete 6-7 more in spring 2012.
i will for sure complete the prereqs for physics or math, but Im choosing between compsi and mech e.
I can either go safe and apply as either math or physics, (switch major to cs after admitted) or try for mech e.
If I choose mech e, i will then complete all the the articulated courses offered at my cc for mech e(missing thermodynamics and intro to solid mechanics), or else i would then take the cs classes, which are not articulated but will prepare myself for ucb cs courses.

do i have a good chance for ucb coe? or i should just stick with physics or math.
also, which one is easier to get in, math or physics? I want to decide my major and start ec related to that.

Well first off, something to consider, cal rarely accepts ppl with no EC’s. They don’t look at you as a number. They look at what you can contribute to the world other than studying.
Also I would recommend EECS :)

Your CC has a course that use MATLAB? That’s pretty cool. I’m guessing it’s for your engineering classes.

Just double checking, but make SURE you will have 60 UC transferable units by the end of Spring '12.

Out of curiosity, how are you completing the Physics series in one year? You didn’t say you’ve taken any AP Phys either.

If you apply as Math or Physics, would you try to switch into L&S CS or into EECS? Although you will potentially have the minimum requirements for any of these majors, what you’re lacking is anything that will set you apart from every other applicant. Realistically speaking, with no EC and only a single semester’s worth of coursework to look at, it’s going to be a challenge to present yourself in a light that is deemed worthy of acceptance.

Also, make sure you have about people proofread your essays. Understandably, you probably didn’t care about your grammar in this post, but with all due respect, it was awful.

I guess that will make it 1.5 years? im taking physics this summer. Ill prolly do some ec, but again im applying in 3 months…dont have mucah time. And yea i understand that theres not much to look at on my transcript so i think its not likely to get into coe… ill work maybe 10-20 hrs/week, complete all prereqs w/ 4.0. good chance for math?

and lets not pick on my grammar i started learning english in less than 5 years…

Lol fair enough. FYI the math department at Cal has one of the lowest departmental GPAs on the entire campus. I know you said you plan on switching, but I thought I should throw that out there in case. One of my friends is a Physics transfer this year. I’m not sure of his stats/EC but I don’t think they were anything crazy though I know he has a high GPA.

Make sure you look up the difficulty of transferring into CoE. You can probably find some information by searching the posts on the UCB forum or by asking a general question about the difficulty of transferring into any of those majors.
