What Makes a Good Letter of Rec?

My question is pretty basic. I viewed one of my supplemental recommendations (not from an academic teacher, but from a coach), and want to know what determines whether or not a recommendation is going to help me, or not. I'm not going to post it on here or anything, but I just want to know some general qualities of a good rec.

I should note, that since this rec is supplemental, and not from an academic teacher, I did not violate the waiver of my FERPA rights.

Read this. This shows what schools are looking for – even though yours isn’t from a teacher, I’m sure your coach can adhere to its suggestions

Thanks!

It looks like I was written a very good recommendation, then.
