What makes you a perfect candidate for FIT? Why are you interested in the major you are applying to?

Please tell me if I need to change something and if this essay make sense and please help me with my grammar. All critiques are appreciated.

One of my goals in life is to become like Anna Wintour, one of the most well-known and influential figures in the fashion industry. I don’t want to become similar to her, I want to become another like her, a new and more efficient one. I was fascinated with all the critiques she had done and said in the fashion industry, and I deeply desire to become like her in the future. I want the world of fashion to be allured with my actions, and someday, that action will help others in the fashion industry to become inspired.

The first person I had criticized was my mother. I remember when I was little, my mother was using this old rusty sewing machine with her foot to make the machine works. She was sewing a new pillow case for my bedroom. The first thing that bothers my mind was the color. I don’t like the color, it was too bright. A color that you don’t want to see when you open your eyes early in the morning, and it does not match to the palette of my bedroom color, but I kept that criticism back in my head, I don’t want her to think I was unappreciative. I was too young to criticize simple things.

I grew up surrounded by women and the majority of my friends is girls. They are my models, I like seeing them presentable and elegant. They get infuriated with me when I told them the flaws that I saw in their dresses or other things that undesirable in my eyes. I am fond of making my friends and my two sisters look stunning and that became my business in the age of 14. I was known in my town back in the Philippines, as the best hairstylist because of my friends and my two sisters. I became discovered when I dyed my friend’s hair and styled it. One of my friend’s mother saw what I have done and became amazed and asked me to style her hair. I am focused on what I like to do, how to improve my skills, and I paid attention to all my work. Even though it’s overwhelming at some point and I have to put every strength remaining inside of me, because I want to see my masterpiece becoming perfect and reach beyond what I have expected. Thinking what possible mistake I might do also helps me to improve and gain a lesson to every possible blemish I will create.

Criticizing and being judgmental is two different meanings to me. I tell the truth when I saw something that disturbs my mind and it has to be changed immediately. The other one is, I tell the truth when everyone tells you the lie. I admit that I sound presumptuous and act like one sometime, but I’m just being realistic and trust what my mind tells me. Sometimes they do work and sometimes they don’t, when you scrutinize them the truth will come out.

When my family decided to move here in the United States, I still become flabbergasted to the beauty of the New York City every time I have been there. I couldn't imagine that I will spend my life in the fashion capital of the world. All the aspiring people in the fashion industry that I idolize was started in New York City such as: Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael Kors, and Calvin Klein. And I firmly believe I will become included in the mainstream of fashion and being compared with them.

With the great help of Fashion Merchandising management I will obtain all the goals I want to achieve and helps me to learn all the knowledge I have to learn. An abundant opportunity will come to my door steps and guide me to build my own brand in the fashion industry. It will be my privilege to become one of the students of the Fashion Institute of Technology.

There are a lot of grammatical errors and you did not elaborate on what FMM actually is. It can be much longer and has the potential of becoming a decent essay. Your grades maybe great but this essay really lacks the components that are desired for the entering class.

First off, FMM is not critiquing works of fashion. FMM is the business of fashion that uses one’s creative and analytical abilities to sell merchandise, whether it’d be apparel or home products, in the right place, at the right time, and in the right quantities. There are many fields which you can take with FMM, such as visual merchandising, buying, product development, planning, etc. You did mention product knowledge and to build your brand, which are components of merchandising, but how will you brand yourself to employers? Will you obtain any valuable product knowledge, maybe on certain textiles, fibers, and forecasts from studying at FIT that will contribute to your company? How will you market yourself to become a valuable individual the fashion industry? Just some suggestions. Also, have an english teacher read this to correct any errors. You’ll have many drafts before you submit your essay for it to be its’ best. If you are unsure of what you want to pursue in the business/fashion field, it’s a great major to study since it’s so broad.

Thank you so much I appreciate that  @artsyfartsy96
