Are any of the academies planning memorial services for 9?11? Or did they happen at chapel on Sunday? I was musing today--how many of the classes of 2010 are there partly because of that day...

My entire heart is given to the victims & families effected by 9/11 today.

Heartcross, great topic for this day. Last year USMMA held a service on the steps of Delano Hall. My son gave a speech he'd written about 9/11 last year and the bells were tolled. I'd posted it here last year but can't find it in the old threads to post again today. I can only imagine what it must feel like to look across the Sound & see those lights at night from the towers. He said it was very moving. They will have the same ceremony this evening. Wish I could be there.

Yes indeed. My son is at his academy, not partly because of 9/11, but entirely because of it. He's never waivered from his goal to become Coast Guard upon graduation in hopes of working with our port security. He feels that this is where his service & heart belong. I am so unbelievably proud of our servicemen & women & of our Academy kids, especially on this day.

May we never forget.

Well, this is a sad day indeed. Our town will hold yet another memorial- several of them- to honor those in our community that were lost. Names will be read, and bells will toll, and their stories will be relived. Way too many. There is nothing harder than witnessing the hardships and the sorrow that still engulfs these families, many with young children, now 5 years older. Our community has been scared, and the passage of time has made little impact in the emptiness- especially in the missing faces that for years graced our church, our school, and our community.

I dread this day.

I posted this on the USMMA thread

The Academy remembers...............

I live in Bucks County where 17 people lost their lives on 9/11/01... one was the pilot of Fight 175, the plane that stuck the 2nd tower; another was a passenger on United 93. The official dedication of the Garden of Reflection in my township had to be postpned until the end of this month since heavy rains this summer delayed its construction.

Our church began tolling its bell at 0848 this AM, 100 times

God bless America......

USAFA had a reveille formation by the Air Gardens and a moment of silence.

I am at least one 2010'er that is here partly due to 9/11.

The CGA Choir was at the Cantor Fitzgerald memorial ceremony in Central Park yesterday. As you may recall CF lost some 600 employees in the attack.

658 to be exact.

Family, friends, and neighbors amongst them.

The CGA did an outstanding job- thank you, it was appreciated by this soul.

Thanks navy2010 for that update. It must have been an impressive ceremony.

Boss- it was. My thanks to each and every one of them, they did the USCGA proud.
