Graduation speakers for the academies?

I was chit-chatting with a mom of a KP2009 at 4-H the other day...and she said that the 2009 graduation speaker was supposed to be the pres--but then it was changed. Does anyone know of a list somewhere with the speakers for the academies for the various years? 2010 Naval would be nice to know... ;-)

Heartcross, I haven't heard that the President changed his plans for speaking at USMMA. Its still big news on the academy web site. Not sure that is the case because they're rolling along up there getting academy grounds prepared and security done for the First classmen. LFWBDad? Can you comment?

The speakers aren't asked until that year of graduation. The Prez. is suppose to rotate evenly through the academies, in reality he doesn't. Navy and WP are closer to DC so they get him quite a lot.

To be honest the day is about your cadet and the family and friends, if the president comes they cut down on the number of ticket so many don't get to come and watch. Each cadet at AF only got 3 tickets. Who do you leave at home grandma, grandpa, your 2 other kids. In 1992 or 93, the president was the speaker and a cadet from a small town in the mid-west had his entire town coming by bus to watch him graduate. We and many of the Professors gave up our tickets to graduation because the numbers was so limited.

I had to laugh because there was a hail storm and tornado warning that day. Thought that the secret service had more to worry about from the weather than the people in the stands.

I think what she was talking about was Adm. Stewart's vision that he expressed on Acceptance Day that POTUS would be speaking at graduation in 2009. Nobody knows right now. There is no formal schedule. Who knows, maybe President Richardson will want to speak at all the academies every year. Ya just never know.

Big ooops. I re-read & understand. Sorry Heartcross. Lesson learned. Do not reply to stuff while laptop is in lap & it's operator watches a movie. :)

Adm. Stewart tells every class at Indoc that the President will be their graduation speaker. This time it's coming true for the class of 2006, the first time a sitting president will speak at USMMA. They did limit tickets, but we are getting 10 per graduate, which is pretty generous, and there may be more available at the last minute. The only bad thing is they told us it will be outdoors rain or shine and you can't take in umbrellas! As stated before, nobody knows who the graduation speaker will be for 2009 or any other year.

Really? That's odd. It's accepted here at USMA that there is a four year rotation. The last time the President came was 2002, for the bicentennial. He's coming this year, for my graduation, 2006. At some point, he skipped Air Force because of the scandals. We all knew that he was coming, but they didn't offically announce it until a few months ago. We've each got 10 tickets to graduation in the reserved section, and the rest of the football stadium is open to the public.

George W spoke at the coast guard academy in 2003

From a historical standpoint, the President usually rotates among USMA, USNA, USAFA, and USCGA every four years. My class threw it off (USMA 2002) because we were the Bicenntenial Class, as he was "supposed" to go to '01s grad. So, they flip flopped USNA '01 and USMA '02. USMA '01 wasn't that happy with us...oh well. But typically it is every four years. I can't speak on the USMMA rotation though.

This is the first time for USMMA, you can't call it a rotation yet.
