What might be some of my match schools?

I don't really have any specific range of schools I want to get into. I am just trying to figure out where I am at this stage in my life (a.k.a. the oh-so-lovely junior year).

Here is what I have so far. It's a pretty long list.

Grades on a 4.0 unweighted GPA scale
Freshman: 3.6
Sophomore: 2.6 (I will explain this atrocity later)
Junior: 3.8

AP U.S. History

Teachers' Course Recommendations for 12th grade

AP Biology
AP Psychology
AP U.S. Government & Politics

Standardized Testings
SAT: 2330
SAT II U.S. History: 780

Personality
Okay, I guess I can't really fully describe myself via the internet. But some adjectives I would use to describe myself is laid-back, optimistic, and free-spirited. Contrary to what it may seem, I'm really not that stressed or overworked like my peers. Though, looking back, I wasn't always this happy-to-lucky. During my freshman and sophomore year, I went through some family issues and other emotional crap (I was really stupid). Long story short, I had to see a psychologist during the summer. Fun times. But yea, that was what contributed to the horrible academic performance I had.

Conclusion
Realistically speaking, I know I will not get into an Ivy League with all these grade fluctuations and mental...instabilities, for the lack of better terms (and no, I'm not insane. Just teenage melodrama). But hey, it doesn't hurt to dream.

Right now, my reach school is Georgetown, NYU, or Boston College. I don't really have a match school since I get really insecure about my resume and end up beating myself up.

So, yeah. I would love to hear what you guys say.

Phew...that was longer than I had anticipated.

Honestly, you probably can get into almost any college you apply for…even some Ivies. Colleges like to see an upward trend in grades (which you have) because it shows potential. You have great ECA’s and an almost perfect SAT score. I wish you luck in getting into you dream school!

Thank you so much, Wawa! (P.S. I love your name)
Thinking about colleges actually scares me a lot because my school is like, ultra-competitive and nerdy, and my family and teachers often pressure us into doing all those activities. It’s actually really sad. I’m trying to do what makes me happy right now, instead of being a puppy dog robot.

I wish you the best of luck on your college app! Let us know when that fat envelope comes for you :)

I’m not sure about the Ivies, unless you are a minority or have a really unique hardship. I would say, however, that you have very good chances at any schools ranked under the Ivies, like those ranked number 30 and below.

Georgetown: Reach
NYU: High match
BC: High match

Tulane, perhaps…

Sorry. I didn’t answer the question. I would say reach for all, unfortunately. For match schools, maybe UVA?

I really liked Tulane, but I’m trying to stay in the East Coast since I don’t want to pay for airfare. (I’m cheap) :D

My friend told the average GPA for UVA is a 4.2. I’m not that smart yet, unfortunately. Maybe she’s got the stats wrong?

4.2 is weighted. You gave us your unweighted. What is your weighted?

BU? Villanova?

I could chance you for UVA/W&M provided you supply your weighted; Virginia state schools are fond of weighted GPA

Here are some schools that might be matches for you or at least you will have a chance to get into.

-GWU
-American
-Elon
-Muhlenberg
-the college of NJ
-penn state

Those are 6 different schools as I wasn’t totally sure on the type of school you wanted.

My weighted GPA as of now is a 4.1 on a 4.5 scale.

UVA: Match

Thanks Catria!

For other academic information, I am planning to take three more SAT IIs in May and June: Chemistry, World History, and Math II. I’m prepping for all of them right now. Will this help?

I think none of these schools require more than 3 SAT2 tests total (Georgetown)… so I’d say that it could be better to cut one of the three. Personally I’d cut WH.

Hey! I’m a junior too so I don’t know a whole lot about college either but I’m guessing these would be matches: Cal, USC, UCLA (not sure if your interested)
Obviously ivies and ivy-type schools (Georgetown, MIT, etc) are crapshoots for everyone and there’s no silver bullet so just keep doing what you’re doing because it’s totally possible! Good luck

Please chance me, I’d really appreciate it: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1605657-1st-semester-junior-year-crisis-chance-me-please.html

:)

I think you have good chance at BC and NYU. GT is a reach. Some matches would be Boston University, Lehigh University, Villanova University. Maybe not Ivies but how about Carnegie Mellon, UNC, and Vanderbilt? I think you might have a chance at those as well.

Wow your resume is outstanding. I think you will have no problem getting into either of those schools. Keep your head up and good things will come your way!
