What more can I do?

Hey guys,

I've been working my tail off all semester so I can transfer to HYSPenn, but I still feel like a below-average candidate for transfer. Here are my stats:

University of Texas
Business Honors/Plan II Honors
GPA: 4.0
ACT: 34
SAT: 2200
HS Rank: 13/741
HS GPA: 90, My transcript looks terrible (literally nothing above a 91)
ECs: Texas Ultimate Frisbee Team (9th ranked college team/589 in the nation), Senate of College Councils, Intramural Basketball Team Captain, Breakdancing Club, Honors Business Association
Awards: National Merit, AP National Scholar, Congressman Bill Archer Internship, not much else.
Ethnicity: Taiwanese/Cantonese. Here's where I lose, haha.

Can I get some advice on what more I can do to lessen the gap between admission and rejection? I'm so lost.

Thanks

My only advice for lessenening the gap between admission and rejection is to add some schools with higher transfer acceptance rates. There are a lot of schools between UT and HYS and even Penn, aren't there any others that you'd like? I'm not sure if you're transferring as a Jr or Sop, but that may make a difference on how much weight they put on your college record vs. HS.

I'm xferring as a Soph, and they'll probably put more weight on my HS record. I'm also app'ing to Columbia.

I guess it depends on how much you want to transfer. If these are the ONLY schools you'd like attending more than UT, then your list is fine. However, if you really want to get out of UT, try to find other schools that are a notch down in selectivity but still have many of the qualities you like in these schools. Would you like an LAC like Amherst? They actually view Asians as minorities and will give you a great education with lots of opportunities. How about WUSTL, UChicago, Emory or Rice for mid-sized schools?

You're obviously getting good grades and participating in campus activities, there's not too much more you can do along those lines. It looks like you're in business, and I know nothing about that field, so forgive me if some of my college suggestions are off base.

thanks for your advice! I think the school I most want to attend is probably Columbia. But Amherst sounds pretty great

You do know Texas has a great business program and their accounting program is the best in the country. It sounds to me you want to transfer because of prestige...may be parental pressure. Why do you want to transfer?

Texas is enormous. 50000 students; i want a college with intimacy and student camaraderie like ivies have

you have a point there.

haha thanks! anyway; i'm self-publishing a pamphlet/book on religion. should i mention that?

I'm also self-publishing a pamphlet/mini book on religion. Would that help my chances?

bump for insight
